Etags and expiration dates

Firebug says “There are 43 components with misconfigured ETags” on my home page and it is slowing the page down-

Also - “There are 47 static components without a far-future expiration date.”
I don’t understand how to remedy these, any insight would be appreciated,

What is likely slowing the page down far more is the overall ‘weight’ of the page.

You could reduce the file sizes of your images quite a lot.
