[Express] audio import not working FW6 express?

Attempting to import either .mp3 or .m4a audio, as specified in the “What’s new in FW6” pdf, (see section 6.x, HTML5), results in the file loading as QT rather than the new HTML5 audio/video format, and there are no options in the inspector to choose auto play, controller on/off, etc. The inspector window title bar says “plug in”, not “audio” as shown in the “what’s new” materials.

I opened a new file in FW5.5 exp and got the expected options per above; the inspector says “quicktime” in this case.

Corroborate? Workaround? Feature not fully implemented yet? I haven’t tried yet but I don’t believe I can open my work in FW5.5 once I’ve saved in FW6…

TIA…

What doctype is your page set to? You have to set the Output level to HTML5 to see these options. It absolutely works as documented here, in an HTML5 page.

Oh, missed the Express flag in your subject line. I don’t have Express 6 here, can’t confirm or deny.

Thanks for checking, Walter. Tech support did indeed confirm that the express version of FW6 does not support HTML5 audio as advertised. Too bad – that was the reason I upgraded. Continuing to explore solutions…

Did they offer to file a bug and fix it in a minor update? Alternatively, they could encode the AudioJS Action by Tim Plumb so it could be used in Express, and you could use that on your page. http://actionsforge.com/actions/view/245-audiojs If you feel like they advertised this as a feature, then it’s on them to fix it. I’d be prepared to prove that assertion, though.

They acknowledged the bug but did not offer any time frame for resolving (understandably).

The impetus for employing the html5 audio spec is that I have a page on my site with a growing quantity of AAC files (I’m a professional studio musician and need to be able to offer reasonably high quality samples of my work) and I want to be able to use the “do not pre-load” tag so the page doesn’t take the better part of a minute to load. I also want to ensure compatibility with as many devices and platforms as possible. iOS does what I want automatically: Safari does not preload media.
