I’m typing content into HTML items and my browser preview shows hugely inconsistent font sizes, all within the same sentences and paragraphs. I’ve tried selecting all the text and clicking different font-size options, but this just creates havoc.
Does anyone have an idea what I should do?

Firstly - it is useful if you can post a link to an online example where we can see the underlying code for your page.
Before you do that it will be very helpful if you go to File>Document Setup and under the Output Tab ensure that HTML Code: is set to More Readable
Also can you tell us how you are applying sizing to your text.
Are you using a pixel size ie 12px, a % size ie 120% or a relative size like small or medium.
You will get the best/most consistent results if you use a px size as the others reliy on you having set a ‘standard’ size for your P or Body styles.

Re the pixel size: Because I’m typing into an HTML item, the size choice is Default, and then +1, +2, -1, -2, etc.
I didn’t really understand your last comment:

the size choice is Default, and then +1, +2, -1, -2, etc.
This may be a limitation of Express - that you only have this sizing option.
Pro offers more options
a pixel size ie 12px, a % size ie 120% or a relative size like small or medium
Try to ensure that you have all the text selected in a paragraph before applying a size.

I guess I’m not explaining this right. I have chosen the text size. I type my content into the item box. Everything looks fine. But when I save it and view it in my browser, the font sizes are weird. When I select all the text in the paragraph and choose a size, sometimes that fixes it and sometimes not.
If I were to type my content into a graphics item, I would have more choices as to font size. I’ve chosen HTML items so that my content will be searched by the search engines.
I would like to be able to view the HTML code in these items, but I can’t figure out how to do that. Even when I click View HTML, it doesn’t show up. Do you know how I can do this?

If you want to view the HTML code that FW outputs then select a text editor as a preview option.
In Browser setup you can choose several browsers to preview with
File>Preview in Browser>Browser SetUp
