[Express] index.html not creating

Hello new user of Freeway Express 5.6.1.
Managed to get my website up and running now. But had a little snag with the publishing side. I create an index.html in the site folder, but I needed and external to link to my folder.
Link /ANGSAXLAND/index.html. I edited an old index.html to direct to the above folder which works. Q. is though why Freeway does create two?
On another furbal on the ftp transfer to my web site. The resource folder does load all files, had to go via another ftp app?

Not quite sure what you mean by this.

FW automatically creates the first page in a folder as index.html no matter what Title you give that page. If you create a subfolder like ANGSAXLAND then FW will automatically create an index.html page within that subfolder.

This is expected behaviour on web servers - there should be an index.html page (sometimes index.htm or index.php) in every folder so that someone typing the url yoursite.com/yourfolder gets sent to the default index.html page within that folder.

If you have created/edited any page or file outwith FW on your server then FW will leave that page/file alone when it uploads and will rename its own files so that there are not 2 files with the same name.

The resource folder does load all files, had to go via another ftp app?

I assume that you mean “doesn’t load all files” - and this may well be because of what happens in the para above ie FW has renamed the files to avoid duplicates.

Hello David.
Thanks for the reply. The problem started when I used iWEB which created two index.html. One which would link to the other in the folder and open the site normally. Yet when I used the FW Express, only one was created inside the site folder after publishing.

Sorry for DOES instead of Doesn’t. The resource for downloading had not delivered all my file which would have linked to various pdf file. I had to transfer manually via another app.
My site opens on http://www.oakesc82.calloo.co.uk automatically instead of http://www.oakesc82.calloo.co.uk/ANGSAXLAND

So why do you want to use http://www.oakesc82.calloo.co.uk/ANGSAXLAND instead of http://www.oakesc82.calloo.co.uk/

Where are you uploading your FW files to - and are you using FW’s built in FTP?

If you just want visitors to see your files in http://www.oakesc82.calloo.co.uk/ANGSAXLAND then I would use a redirect from http://www.oakesc82.calloo.co.uk/index.html

There is an action - Timed Redirect - but I am not sure if it is available in Express. If not then you can do this on the server using a bit of code.

You might be as well to trash everything that is on the server that iWeb created and reupload using FW.

You can then build your site in FW with an index.html page and then the rest of your files in a sub folder called ANGSAXLAND (with its own index.html page) - if you choose to do it that way.

Hello David.
I trashed the iWEB later because I wanted to make sure my FWE creation was working okay. In the end everything worked okay. So later I deleted the iWEB version.
I used the in built first, then I notice some of my pdf files had not been transferred.
I might give the last paragraph a go sometime in the future thanks for the advice.

If you are using the Link to PDF action then these will be uploaded for you - if you are just creating manual links then you will need to do the upload of the PDFs yourself.
