[Express] Linking to Mailchimp

Hi - new to freeway. I want to add the script that allows people to add their name to the Mailchimp mailing list. The script is below. But where do I put it. I have tried External Hyperlink but it does not work correctly. Help greatly appreciated.

David

#mc_embed_signup{background:#fff; clear:left; font:14px Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; } /* Add your own MailChimp form style overrides in your site stylesheet or in this style block. We recommend moving this block and the preceding CSS link to the HEAD of your HTML file. */

Hi David,
Welcome to Freeway!

Here’s what I would do;

  1. Go to Page > HTML Markup… and set the Insert menu to Before (end head)
  2. In this dialog paste the following code (the CSS styles for the signup form). Please note; If you are viewing this in your email client ignore the 4 tildes before and after the code (~). These are there to style the code as, well, code on the web site.;
<link href="http://cdn-images.mailchimp.com/embedcode/slim-081711.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
<style type="text/css">
	#mc_embed_signup{background:#fff; clear:left; font:14px Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; }
	/* Add your own MailChimp form style overrides in your site stylesheet or in this style block.
	   We recommend moving this block and the preceding CSS link to the HEAD of your HTML file. */
</style>
  1. Ok the dialog
  2. Select Insert > Markup Item… and paste the form item markup into the dialog (again ignore any tildes you may see);
<div id="mc_embed_signup">
<form action="http://wyreclt.us2.list-manage1.com/subscribe/post?u=6f903c0b75348d8aa7c066e80&amp;id=df85dab90e" method="post" id="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" name="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" class="validate" target="_blank">
	<label for="mce-EMAIL">Subscribe to our mailing list</label>
	<input type="email" value="" name="EMAIL" class="email" id="mce-EMAIL" placeholder="email address" required>
	<div class="clear"><input type="submit" value="Subscribe" name="subscribe" id="mc-embedded-subscribe" class="button"></div>
</form>
</div>
  1. OK this dialog
  2. position this markup item box anywhere on your page you want the signup box to appear

You are all done!
Regards,
Tim.

Mmmm, that last post of mine looks less than perfect online.

Here’s a sample Freeway 5.5 Express document (5.5 Pro users can also open it) that should demonstrate how the code is added;

Many thanks Tim - works great. One questions - can I change the font to Verdana and white letters?

Hi David,
Sure. The markup for the CSS styles changes slightly;

I’m just helping my wife out with a website for her business and she has a mailing list through MailChimp. When I follow your instructions and embed the MailChimp code into the HTML Markup section, it always comes up at the top of the page. I don’t seem to be able to choose where it goes on the page at all.

I’ve uploaded it to www.whiteriotprint.com/newsletter.html but there are no links pointing to it. At the moment when you click Newsletter on the site, it goes to the external MailChimp website.

Ideally I want the mailing list join-up to appear on the right hand side next to the links sidebar … similar to where the writing is on the About page (www.whiteriotprint.com/about.html).

Any tips?

Thanks heaps,

Joel

Use Insert>Markup Item and paste your code into that NOT Page>HTML Markup.

This gives you a 100px square markup box on your FW page which you can resize and position wherever you want.

Thank you very much for that. I was having some problems with it effecting the formatting of the rest of the page, but a bit of trial and error seemed to sort it out.

And thanks for replying so quickly too!

Please help,
I cannot get Maichimp working in freeway pro 6.07
I put the CSS part in Page HTML Markup and the other part of the code in a Markup item.
Then I put both the css part AND the other code together in a markup item.

NO results, when i enter the e-mail address it go’s to a blank page and displays the the input block for the second time (looks as it is without using the css code this time) the field is empty when i enter the e-mail adress and submit the data, something is happening, don’t know what. normally you have to get a window telling you to verify the subsciption but that never happens…

Please help.

Can you post a link to your page online.

Without that it is very difficult to tell where you are going wrong.

URL http://norestfortheobsessed.com/store/mailchimp.html

I made a separate page for this to avoid problems caused by multiple forms (for which a question is pending with softpress support , “how to use Multiple forms”)

In the meantime I understand a little bit more of my problem, when i enter the e-mail address he goes to a page at mailchimp.com there asks again for emailaddress (that is not what i want) then tells me to confirm the address but the mail to confirm never arrives.

It must be possible to handle mailchimp within Freeway???

TIA, Ton.

What code did you get from Mailchimp

Dave,

I did not get code from mail chimp, I used parts of something I found here.
I think that the problem is that my code goes to my account at the mailchimp site. I don’t think that the solution is to remove the link in my code.

(removed the mailchimp password)

Style sheet:

#mc_embed_signup { padding: 0px 0px 0px; width: 250px; font: bold 16px Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; } #mc_embed_signup .email { display: block; margin: 10px 0; padding: 2px 2px; width: 220px; border: 1px solid #999; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-box-sizing: border-box; box-sizing: border-box; } #mc_embed_signup .email:focus { border-color: #333; } #mc_embed_signup .button { display: block; padding-bottom: 2px; padding-left: 4px; padding-right: 4px; margin-left: 0px; width: 65px; height: 19px; font-size: 11px; font-weight: normal; color: #fff; cursor: pointer; border: 0; border-radius: 0px; background: #aaa; } #mc_embed_signup .button:hover { background: #777; }

When you inserted the mailchimp code in your FW page you have inserted it with some of the code commented out. I think the receiving script needs this to validate and that is why the page asks for it again. Remove the opening and try it again

<!--

          <label for="mce-FNAME"> </label>
          <input type="text" value="" name="FNAME" class="email" style="width:90%" id="mce-FNAME">
        </div>
        <div class="mc-field-group" style="float:left; width:40%;">
          <label for="mce-LNAME"> </label>
          <input type="text" value="" name="LNAME" class="email" style="width:90%" id="mce-LNAME">
        </div>
-->

        <div class="mc-field-group" style="clear:both">

Dave,

The removed code was for name input fields.
I removed the comment’s
It works better now, now I get a blank page tell me to confirm the subsciption by -email.
But the e-mail never arrives and the page with the message stays on screen.
See: http://www.norestfortheobsessed.com/store/mailchimp.html

I did do that bit but put a spurious email address in so there is no way I would get an email to confirm.

I will try again with a real email address but if it is getting that far then it is likely that the fault is with mailchimp.

Update: It worked but the confirmation email went straight into my Spam folder.

So have a look in there!

Hi Dave, thanks for your suggestion, certainly has worked well! My only problem now is that I’m getting a repeat of the one element of the unstyled form appearing below the subscribe button, could I have overlapped on some code possibly?

Thanks again for all your advice.
