[Express] master page question

I have a site with about 80-90 pages and when I make a change to the master page (such as background or a change in the menu bar) the change only applies to less than half the pages. In the site folder bar every page has “[master1]” after the page name. It gets a little tedious having to make a simple change on most pages manually. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

On the pages that have not been updated when changes have been made on the Master have a look at these items in the inspector for that page.

With the unchanged item selected make sure that in the Inspector>Page Properties that the two checkboxes for Use Master Content and Use Master Settings are ticked.

Once you have re-established the link then they should update along with the rest of the pages.

If this doesn’t work then in the affected pages delete all content that is derived from the Master and then Reapply Master (checking afterwards that you do not have any duplication).

Once you have done this then your problem should not recur unless you change the content/settings on the child pages and break the link again.

Remember that you do not want to alter child page content that is derived from a Master - instead do your change on the Master itself. (Unless it is specific to only that page) when you run the risk of getting in the same pickle.
