[Express] Please Critique my site

Hello All,

Thanks for all that have helped getting me past the learning curve ‘bumps’! I feel I have the basic structure going on, and would love to hear your constructive criticism for this, my first site.

A couple things - I know my pics have a lot to be desired, but these are what I have for the moment. I’m going to expand the Services section to 3 pages, so dont’ read too much into the current Services text that is currently only 1 page long.

More testimonials on the way…

here is the site: http://www.ramsaydaly.com

Thanks in advance for your input, always much appreciated! -Ramsay

For a first site it looks pretty good, well done!

A few pointers:

The background is just off lining up, and the line up is directly in the middle of the page so very noticeable

Perhaps introduce a rollover for the navigation as it all feels a bit flat.

I wouldn’t have the text going right up to the side of the page. Try adding some padding to the html box in freeway (or just move the whole box!)

Other than that it looks good!

Hope that’s helped.

All the best,

Fergus

Thanks for your time and pointers, Fergus.

Background: are you referring to the middle horizontal axis and where the pattern repeats itself?

Rollover Navigation: i hear you there, i’ll work on that a bit.

Padding: I’ll add some.

Cheers! Ramsay

The site looks nice,
I wonder if you could make your html text area slightly transparent so the page background could be seen behind the text.
This can be done in pro by selecting the html box, in the inspector there is graphic effects area, select your desired background color and then reduce the opacity. It would be a way just to soften the contrast between the grayish wood background and the white html text area.
I’m not sure if express offers that option.
I’ve grabbed some elements from your site and uploaded and example of what I mean, here; http://frontrangeweb.com/ramsay.html

Great suggestion Rich, and thanks for the mock up. That gives a much more refined look.

I’m using Express at the moment, which doesnt’ offer to transparentize (sp?) the background. After I start making the big $$ I will upgrade!

thanks, Ramsay

p.s. I think i’m going to warm up the graysh bkgrnd too, so it’s not so gray.
