Hello and thank you for your time.
I am building my Site but on checking it Online, it seems to load superslow. On my own computer it works fine, but when I test it Online, it seems to take forever to load pages etc. Obviously this is not going to help visitors to the page. I am pretty much a complete beginner, so I am looking for ways to solve this problem. My Site is: www.actiefonline.org
The Site is in Dutch. Thank you for any comments on this.
Open your web site up in Safari and right-click anywhere on the page and select ‘Inspect Element’. Select the ‘Resources’ tab and ‘Size’ in the left sidebar. You should see a graph showing the load times for the page as well as a list of all of the resources (images, scripts, fonts etc) used on the page. The thing that is slowing your site down is the 3.9MB background image.
Unfortunately Freeway doesn’t process background images so if you add a large image to your site Freeway will just pass it through to your finished site. Open the image in an image editor and reduce the physical size and quality of the file until you get to something a bit more manageable.
Regards,
Tim.

Thanks Tim. I had my suspicions about that opening page. Another thing I was wondering is if the amount of PDF’s I included will also hinder. If you would go to the section : ‘Oppepper’ and then click on ‘jaargang 1’ you will see I try to include a PDF of a weekly devotional I mail off. I was hoping I could do this in this way, but maybe I cant. Thanks for taking time to answer my original question
What is a good size for pictures in general? I thought Freeway just automatically sizes things down, but I suppose in some cases that is not true. Are there any guidelines for pictures sizes?
thanks
Well I took the huge pictures out. In fact I only have a little text on the first page, but still the pages load superslow. I must be doing something else wrong…I have a lot of PDF files on the Site a whole, and a simple movie file, but that could not cause the Site to load so slow.
Any ideas. My Site is www.actiefonline.org
Thanks
The files you link to (PDFs etc) will not cause the site to load slowly, but movies certainly can – if you drag them into the page and they are visible when the page loads. (Even if you have un-checked the Autostart option, the file still starts to download the moment the page is visited.) I believe there is an Action to replace these movies with “poster frames” which cuts down the footprint of the movie to a bare minimum. When the visitor clicks on the movie, it will load and play, but that’s like informed consent – they know what they’re getting into when they click play – rather than forcing them to download a movie they may not want to play, just to see the surrounding page.
