[Express] Tables - Remembering the Format

Hello again,

Is there a trick to getting a table to remember the font and size etc…, you use each week. Such as when you add a row or column, or even type new material into an empty square.
I have to format it each time.

Thanks a bunch,
Al

You can select a row - copy it

Insert a new row

With the new row selected - paste.

This will duplicate the original row with all the formatting - just change your text.

But when I come back to change just one square later I have to choose all the formatting. I guess I only need to update certain squares each week but not add complete rows or cols.

If you are just adding/changing text then you can use Paste and Match Style

DD,
I tried it …
I don’t see how that saves me any time.
Apparently you can’t assign a style (font & size) to a table
and have the table remember it ? Unless I am missing something. Will suggest it to FW -JOe B.

You certainly can in Pro.

Does Express show you a new (temporary) style name when you highlight
some text and style it with a font or similar using the Inspector? Or
does it include tools in the Style palette (or even the Style palette
itself) to add or edit styles?

If Express shows temporary styles, try this:

  1. Draw an HTML box somewhere on the screen, type a word in it, and
style it how you like using the Inspector.

  2. Draw a table on the page, set its parameters, and okay the dialog.
While it’s still highlighted on your screen (handles showing) click
once on the style name you created in step 1 in the list in the Styles
palette. At this point, you should be able to delete the scratch box
you made in step 1 and the style will remain in your list.

  3. Type some text in the table – very important, don’t style this
text in any way. The text will inherit the style from the table.

If Express lets you create a named style, then just add properties to
that style from the Character list, not the Paragraph list, and you
should be able to apply the style to your table (while its handles are
showing). If you add paragraph attributes to the style in the Edit
Style dialog, you will only ever be able to apply it to a paragraph,
which a table is not.

If neither of these options are available to you, then there are
further tricks you can do with hand-coded CSS, but I leave that for
more desperate measures. See if this works for you first.

HEy Walt,

As far as I can tell Exp doesn’t allow temp style creation.
When I do step one this style doesn’t save anywhere that I can see. In the INspector at the bottom of the window there is style drop down but it only applies to lists ; it’s next to indent.
In the style menu at the top of the program there is a “remove styling” option however!!!

So Pro allows this?
What’s the latest upgrade cost to get pro from Exp?
thanks.

It’s always been exactly whatever the price difference is new. So if
Express is 99 and Pro is 149 (haven’t looked in a while) then the
upgrade would cost 50.

Don’t quote me on that price diff, I have no idea what it is exactly.
I just know the formula to figure it out.

Al - If you are quick there is a special deal on FW 5.6.1 at http://www.mupromo.com/

$99 instead of $229 which is a lot less than the upgrade price! But only 4 hours left.

Thanks Dave. Looks good unless they are getting ready to come out with a new pro.
