[Express] Title tag boxes appearing on P.C.

Hi

I have finished a site. Looks great on the mac browsers but when I use a pc browser each time I move the mouse over any kind of link I get a small yellow dialogue box that states the name of the file. I believe these are called title tags.

How do I get rid of them without redoing all the links?

Thats just PCs for you - they tend to show up more noticeably with PC browsers.

These are Alt Text

With a graphic selected look in the Inspector, 3rd tab along (Item Output Settings) and under there you will see the Alt Text box. FW automatically populates this for you with the file name but you can change it to whatever you want - usually a description of the graphic - Or you can untick the box if you like and they wont be published.

What you may find helpful is to give these items meaningful names.

Thanks so much for this. I will give it a shot.

Internet Explorer up to version 7 (I’ve not tried this in 8)
incorrectly takes the alt data for the image if no title attribute is
available which (IMHO) just looks odd. Adding something to the title
attribute will force the browser to show this rather that the alt text
or if the title text is empty will suppress the tool tip entirely.

For images with no enclosing link try this;

  1. Select the image and choose Item/Extended…
  2. In the tab click the New… button
  3. Enter:
    Name: title
Value: (your title text or just leave it blank to suppress IE’s alt
    tooltip)

For images wrapped in a link you can do the same thing but add the
title attribute using the Edit Hyperlink dialog and click on the
Extended… button.
(You might think that the Title field in the Edit Hyperlink dialog
would be good for this, and it is, unless you want to enter an empty
value in which case it won’t work).
Regards,
Tim.

There’s an Action that will do this to all your images in your site on
ActionsForge:

Hi

This is an action I would like to use and have just downloaded it. But in the folder named Freeway 4/5 Pro there is only a page of code not the usual familiar black and yellow icon.

(The icon is there in the express file)

Is this usable as an action and if so how do I install it as the regular method of clicking on it obviously doesn’t work. Or is it something actions forge need to fix?

Regards Richard

Hi Richard,
I’ve just taken a look at the download (Fix IE Alt Tags (Page) - ActionsForge
) and the action for Express is in the “Freeway 4/5 Express” folder.
Express can only use encoded (rather than plain text) actions so it
sounds like you’ve tried to install the wrong one.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Richard,

Just drag the file onto your Freeway application icon to install it.
I’ll get the Action cleaned up on ActionsForge so it uses the correct
icon.

Joe

Many thinks for the info. I did as Joe said and it installed as required. Sorry to Tim for badly written question - it was the pro action I needed and I was looking for the pro icon. But clearly I do not really need it, just the code.

Best wishes

Richard
