Filename length increased in FW?

I’ve had a look at the past threads about filename lengths. Everyone seems to be in agreement that Freeway won’t allow more than 31 characters.

But I’ve just created a page with the following filename:

81 characters!

And 49 characters if you don’t include the first bit, the domain name and the .html bit.

I’ve changed the “filename length” in the Document Setup to 60 characters.

How come I can have loads of characters but everyone can’t?

Has Freeway 5.4.2 introduced the ability to have longer file names?

Hi Mark,

We introduced this a while back, the limit is now 127 characters:

Thanks Joe. Cleared that one up.

I understand the home page file name has to be “index.html” is it possible to cram in a few keywords before the “index.html” bit?

i.e. "mydomain.co.uk/keyword/index.html ?

Hi Mark,

No, unless you set your server up to accept the filename you use to be a valid filename - but we wouldn’t recommend that. Generally speaking, making sure your content covers everything and you have enough links pointing at your site you shouldn’t have to worry about using any tricks to try and get a higher ranking.
