Finder meltdown

Has anyone ever had a Finder meltdown? My Macbook (2ghz interl core duo 667mhz 2gb ram OSX 10.6.8) has suddenly run into a problem where it won’t open folders or files via the usual double click - I can force relaunch the Finder and it will maybe work for one or two folder operations but then sticks again. All programmes seem to work fine, and the folder dialogue if called from within a programme (say importing a file into Freeway or Freehand) works faultlessly.
But out on the desktop the folders and file opening are unresponsive.
I’ve repaired disk and disk permissions with disk utility and reset the PRAM, but no change.
Just wondered if anyone knew this problem and the possible fix?
cheers
Hugh

I’d run DiskWarrior on it.

Did you restart after all this?

I certainly did, several times. Problem persists, though.

When was the last time — if ever — you repaired permissions? Repair them in Disk utility
having it on the same disk you want to fix.

Then check and if necessary repair the hard drive in disk utility on another disk from wich you start.

Cheers, Arne

SO, how did it go? Is your finder okay now?

Cheers, Arne, can’t wait…

Sorry Arne, been busy with other stuff, not looked at it since (it’s only on my Macbook, not on my iMac thank goodness!)

Well you prompted me to find some time to sort it out!

I tried Disk Utility from the Snowleopard start up disk, but no improvement…although it said my drive was fine.

In the end I just decided to re-install Snowleopard in its entirety - seems to have done the trick!
