First site in FW6

Hello all

I’m undergoing a career path diversion at the moment. I’ve been a freelance designer for over a decade now, and since the economic slump my work has all but dried up. Luckily, I have found a hobby is beginning to bear fruit and people are beginning to ask me to build models for them.

I’ve put together a small portfolio site, using FW6 and Exhibeo. Please take a quick look and I would value some feedback.

http://www.heatherkay.co.uk

The services page needs work, and some images. I also need a links section somewhere. Otherwise, I am fairly pleased with the outcome.

I’m getting reports that IE8 takes a dislike to the Exhibeo slideshows on the showcase page. The slideshows won’t launch if the thumbnail is clicked. If you have access to the Dark Side, I’d appreciate further confirmation of this.

Which leads me to a question: what can I change to get IE8 to play ball with the slideshows?

Thanks!

Heather

This looks really nice. I do see something odd on your home page – there’s an entire screen-height of extra blank space at the bottom of the page. You might want to police your pasteboard for any random elements. (Zoom way out and select all.)

I especially love the header on the HKshowcase page. Absolutely perfect fit to the subject matter and strapline!

Speaking of links, you need to set the navigation links (top left) to not have a followed color, IMO. It’s fine to have them turn a unique color to indicate “you are here”, but navigation is re-usable, and the ordinary “I’ve been there before” color change is somewhat out of place.

Heather. I love, love the models and the photography. Those are incredible. I hope you keep turning this passion into profit.

I think that’s my fault. I had issues with the pages not being long enough, stopping short of the bottom of the content and showing the background window colour. I forced it to be 1600px deep to get over that.

I’m still getting my head round FW6’s dimensions and measurements panels!

I agree with you on the navigation colours. I’m working on version 2 of the site, having got some great feedback from other places, so I’ll work that into the mix.

Cheers

Heather
