Flash Action and H.264 compatibility?

I tested the Flash Action with H.264 file and when I preview in browser no video plays. The H.264 file did have an .flv extension although according to Adobe, H.264 (Flash 9) is extension agnostic (.mov, .mp4, f4v should all work).

I used the Flash Action with On2VP6 (Flash 8) .flv which worked fine.

Can someone else confirm that the Flash Action is not compatible with H.264/Flash 9 files?

If so, I do hope this is fixed ASAP since H.264/Flash 9 does seem to be the way forward.

Alternatively has anyone found a way to use H.264/Flash 9 in Freeway (5.3.1).

Hi
I am sure this is one of those areas thats being looked at by the SF engineers, but in the mean-time if you wanted to use H.264 codec in a flash video then you will need to create the f4v file and then use flash to house it in. Then import the swf as a normal flash item.
this should then play.

Hi cseeman,

If you send the file into us at support <support(a)softpres.com> then
we can take a look for you.

In the meantime though, the problem may be down to either the audio or
video codec you are using in the Flash video file being unsupported by
the Action (we used the most common ones). If you download a
conversion tool such as ffmpegX http://www.ffmpegx.com/ you can
convert the movie to the ipod friendly formats and select the
resulting files in the Action.

Or, if you wanted to re-encode the movie in Flash using different
settings then that may also work. I would recommend H.264 and AAC,
both of which are supported in the Action.

I hope this helps.

Hi Joe,

I’m a professional compressionist. I am using H.264 and AAC. It’s
definitely not working. I’ve used both .f4v and .flv extension. I’m
not sure if the Flash Action is extension agonistic though. Adobe’s
own spec would indicate that .mp4 and .mov should even work but in any
case .f4v and .flv are not working.

I’ve tested H.264/AAC with both Apple Compressor and Telestream
Episode Pro and both don’t work in the Flash Action.

Do you have a files size limit as email attachement? The encoded file
is about 36MB but I can certainly encode an excerpt for you as needed.

Let me know ASAP and I can get the file to softpress within a few
minutes.

For those following this thread, apparently Freeway Flash Player
Action is not Flash 9 (H.264/AAC) compatible yet. It seems to have
been coded before Flash 9 was in wide use.
Flash 8 (On2VP6/Lame MP3) will work but for those who must use Flash 9
like me I now embark on my quest for that. I’ve started a separate
thread on that.
