flash video issue between FF3 and Safari

Hi all,

I’ve been using an external flash video player (JW FLV Player) and a graphics box to embed flash videos on my website for a while. However, I’ve just noticed that they are shown differently in FF3 as to Safari. Safari is correct, FF3 missed the bottom and right hand edges (about 10% is missing).

The html is:

That is inserted in a graphics box, again 512x384.

I’m using Freeway Pro 4.4.2.

I’ve also noticed a few other places where FF3 renders the html differently than Safari. FF2 did not.

My question is would a upgrade to Freeway 5 help, or do I need to be doing something differently?

Thanks
Ferg

Errr. Sorry. I’d read that adding 4 spaces before html, would format that as code… Apparently not… :slight_smile:

It would, for the first line of it. You would need to add four spaces
to the beginning of each line, and make sure that your lines are
short enough that your e-mail client will not wrap them.

If you are sending this from mail, try adding a matching row of
tildes to either side of the code block. That will give the effect
you’re after. If you’re using the web interface, you can do this as
well, with the added benefit that you will be able to see in the live
preview if your trick is working or not.

<embed src="./mediaplayer.swf"
width="512"
height="384"
allowscriptaccess="always"
allowfullscreen="true"
flashvars="height=384&width=512&file=./MainWindowOverview.flv&image=./
MainWindowOverview.jpg"
/>

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your reply. The page is at:

http://www.macvector.com/Screencasts/screencasts.html

Please be gentle, that particular page was initially done as my first foray into using Freeway and it’s not done particularly well :slight_smile:

Incidentally I’ve just noticed that Firefox3 under Linux does show the page correctly. It’s just under OS X.

Thanks

What version of FF are you using? They look identical on Safari 3.2
and Firefox 3.0.4 to me.

Hi Joe,

I’m using FF3.0.4 on all machines.

Since you’ve replied I’ve also checked on another Mac (identical software setup but different screen/resolution), and it looks good there too. It’s not the same as Safari as FF3.0.4 shows small vertical blank gaps on either side of each video. But it’s far better than FF3.0.4 on my main Mac.

Since you say it looks OK and it looks fine on my other Mac and Linux workstation, then it appears to be just the fault of my Mac’s setup. Wonder why?

Anyway thank you very much for your help.

Cheers
Ferg
