Font Embedding/Linking

Yes I know this is the current major problem with font linking and
commercial fonts but I’m hoping there may be a reasonable solution
that I’ve overlooked. I’ve been talking with a commercial font
designer who is willing to extend his license to include font linking/
embedding if there’s a way to make it reasonably difficult to
prevent someone from simply typing in the path to the font file and
downloading it. Obviously they would get the path from the stylesheet.
I’m sure I know the answer already but is there a way to block
unauthorized access to the font files (in the Resources folder)
without blocking the other assets being requested by the browser?

Take a look at blocking requests that don’t have your site set as the
referer. It’s almost worthless in keeping out the hardened criminals
of the cyber world – it’s absurdly easy to spoof any header if you
know what you’re doing – but it would deter casual piracy.

Thanks. Is your suggestion any better or worse than putting
an .htaccess file in the directory of choice to block certain file
extensions? It works and I think it’s reasonable. The font designer
I’ve spoken with has no illusions of keeping out a determined or
skilled person, they just want to know that the average visitor can’t
simply type in a path and steal their font on a whim. I think he’ll
find this to be satisfactory solution, if not a bombproof one.

Please disregard my very stupid question. I just had a Doh! moment.
It’s been a long day and I’m going to bed.

Hi Todd
I came across this a little while back…
it protects your site’s files from leechers… I haven’t tried it on @font linking so I cant tell if it works, but it may be what your looking for.

and its rubberwall antileech

All the best max
