Try selecting the cell or the entire table and then goto your Inspector palette and click on the the little graphic buttons on the top until you see a menu that has options like “Height Can Shrink” as a check box and then check it.

Yes, that’s what I would have done [Height Can Shrink] in previous versions
of FW but in my current version 5.3.1 (6259) I just don’t get that option.
I’ve created a new document and put some tables there and as far as I can
find there is just no option!!!

If your table is a layered table (green outline) then I would use weavers table layer action
