Has anyone come across or solved this kind of issue?
2 days ago my forum started displaying this error - I have checked the database in the cPanel and it says it’s fine. I have also looked in phpmyadmin and all the tables appear to still be there, but I cannot look at any as the browser just won’t load - spinning wheel just keeps going round.
"Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later."
If you are able to see the database with PHPMyAdmin, then try checking the checkbox next to each the table names in the main “database” view screen, and from the picker at the bottom of the screen, choose “Repair Table” from the options. This should run for a minute or so, and then see if you can magically connect once more.
Otherwise, ask your hosting provider if they made any changes recently to the firewall or allowed ports on your server. Sometimes the database and Web server are running on the same host, but other times they are separate (and separately configured and tuned) physical machines. If your connection script notes that the database server is called ‘localhost’, then the database server is running on the same machine as the Web server. But if that situation changed, it could be that your script needs to be updated so it knows where to look for the database.

When I open phpmyadmin and click in the left column the database I want, I’m shown all the tables, but when I check any of them I don’t get any options at the bottom to repair?
Looking at one of my databases, I see a table of the tables in the right pane, and there’s a row of checkboxes down the left column of that right pane. If I check all of them, there’s a picker to the right at the bottom that reads “With selected:”. Pull that down and optimize and repair are in the options.
