Freeway Actions and templates

Back to the OT, Tim has shown he is a great Action writer (I worked with him on one such project back in the day) and I for one would be glad to have more of his Actions out in the world.

I am also very interested to see what Softpress does with “Freeway Pro X” (ha ha - I made that up) and how it will work with existing Actions.

Freeway is still how I do most of my web work when I do it, outside of experimental sites I’ve done with blogging software. I did one site with WordPress and I’m still deciding what I think about the whole thing. Every time I to the back end, there are a jillion updates it wants me to do, and I hate that because I worry something might break.

Go Tim, Go!

So haven’t really visited this site or used Freeway much over the past 4 years (was working hard as a print production artist and didn’t have much time for web stuff)

Anyway, recently got laid off and need to update my portfolio site (which was done with Freeway). My version at the moment in 6.1.

Sounds like a few on this thread are now intermittent users. I used to use some of Tim’s actions and used to find them useful.

Most interested in the comments about Freeway working on a new version. Was thinking about upgrading both Freeway and Exhibeo, but now wonder how close Softpress might be to something new.

I’ll never try to talk anyone into spending a dime on Exhibeo (not even close, no cigar for sure) to start with, but Freeway X (…) that’s something worth waiting for. But current actions as we know them now won’t work. The new Freeway (eventually) will be something completely different.

Even though I’ve moved to RSD and RCS (and a couple of other tools), I can’t wait for Jeremy to show the world his interpretation of today’s web development app.

Has it been stated somewhere that the new version of Freeway won’t support current actions (or updated versions of them)?

I don’t recall anything being said on this either way. In fact, I don’t think anything specific has been said about the features of the new version, except things like multiple Undo since that comes with the dev kit. I expect it to have all the modern macOS things like the text engine and such. Beyond that as far as Freeway-specific features, we either wait and see or Joe & Co. will pop in and let us know if they wish to.

I have not heard from Joe since he got a different job. I don’t think he’s a part of the newly reanimated Softpress. Richard Logan is the chief cook and bottle-washer, and Jeremy is coding away, and we are the support team right here. From what I know of my Softpress history (which goes back to Uniquorn, which I actually used for a few days, poly-bagged along with a Mac magazine – on floppies – once upon a time in the early 90s), Jeremy has been the “secret sauce”, having written much of the engine that converts your design intent into valid code. If anyone can figure out how to leverage the Freeway IP in a modern framework, my money is on him.

Tim
Yes pleeeeaaaase!!!
Actions are fun and what makes Freeway interesting. In my experience most of them don’t work on responsive websites so if you could make them that would be terrific.
I have been waiting for WebYep’s new version but it seems to have been forgotten.
With regard the new Freeway - please give a comprehensive user manual with tutorials. This was missing in V7 which was when I most needed it (moving to responsive).

Joe is at creatable if anyone was wondering.
As for actions… well basically they are javascript or at least freeways versions… so I can’t see why they couldn’t be made to work, but I assume it will be down to what type of access we get to install things like actions. As for responsiveness well that comes down to what type of action it is… e.g. p tag removal, link to file, crowbar, etc have nothing to do with responsive layout so you should be able to use many of the actions. The only ones that may be not suitable are the ones that change layout structure and need to be able to react with break points, but the others should be fine…

and no webyep is not forgotten in fact webyep2 is finished and being tested by quite a few people , but its cost me a heck of a lot of time and money I am talking thousands of pounds… and remember I can’t charge for system. I am obliged under the agreement I have with OBD to keep it open source and free so in reality I have to recoup the cost in other ways. e.g. a commercial version that doesn’t fall foul of the open source version
so to give eve tone the heads up it is finished but OBD will need to give me the know thats its good to go

Max.

I’m very interested in Actions for Version 7, Tim!
The one action that I would very much like to use is the CSS3 Rollover action. Thanks.

A Flexbox action would be awesome: convert all div’s to a flex box parent, and just apply settings that will effect it’s children

Very interested in a working soft scroll in responsive pages. The one I used before is not working neither when I visit Freeway market and open the templates they say have this action.

Have anyone managed to solve the Jaca Script issue ???

And of core - very interested in good actions and templates. The themes I would like to see is:

  1. Photographers choice - templates that have the Image in focus

  2. Blogger solutions

  3. Any template that is 90% visual content and 10% text and free from the usual icon crap…

For blogger solutions you are free to make any design within Freeway and then use it as a blogger template. Just use the actions provided but be prepared for some hand editing of styles to get things exacly the way you want.

A couple of my freeway designed blogs are http://news.taybus.co.uk/ and http://national.thisismybus.com

Not too sure if you are looking at general soft scrolling or just a ‘scroll to top’ option. For the latter I’ve been using something like this one from jQuery Scroll to Top Button | Free Scroll to Top Code | PHPJabbers at https://www.taybus.co.uk

Hi,

I’m curious if anyone is successfully using their MAC in emulation mode with VM Fusion. I’ve got everything working fine but have this really strange problem. I can not select or add text to an existing text block. I choose the “select” tool, but for some reason it does not seem to work in emulation mode with Fusion.

I’m using Freeway Pro 7.1.3 running on VM Fusion 8.5.8 with El Capitan 10.11.6

Any suggestions appreciated. If I can figure this out I can update to High Sierra & beyond on my late 2011 Macbook Pro & just utilize for Freeway & a few other “legacy” apps.

My post was about templates, Gordon.

Ready made pages like wordpress blog templates and more templates in general. The Softpress Marketplace was a great idea but it died long before Softpress did.

I migrated to Coffeecup because they promised hundreds of templates. Well - nothing new on the table yet…

Funny - but smooth scroll action is working after updating to 7.1.4.

Scrolling up is wasted time - I rather use an arrow icon with hyperlink to page.

Smooth scroll gave me javascript failure on 3 different macs with different Osx.

Hope nextgen Freeway will be a more stable platform.
