Freeway for PC

I have a feeling I might get shot for asking this question, but is there any sign of a PC release coming out? Is it ever going to happen?

Hi Colm
I wouldn’t count on it… or certainly not in the near future. I am sure if that was to happen then just the fact that it was happening would get a lot of pre launch advertising… and I haven’t heard anything.

So is it a market problem? Is there just not enough interest or are softpress just too tied up? I for one am thinking of buying an imac just for using freeway (I have a PC at the moment), I’m sure there are a few more in my boat?

I think it’s more a resources problem. Softpress is not a large
company, and simply doesn’t have the resources available to code for
and support another platform.

I’m sure there have been discussions about a PC version of Freeway,
but I seriously doubt it’s on the radar at Softpress Towers.

Cheers

I doubt it’s a market problem - more likely the a technical/coding one
and the resources needed to provide the alternative architecture.
Having tried a few PC offerings for comparison (and the need of PC
owning associates), I’ve yet to find anything that comes near to FW
for efficiency and ease of use. Unless, of course you are happy with
just changing templates around a little!

One day, perhaps, PC owners will be as lucky as us. So, buy you Imac -
but be warned, when you get more used to a Mac, your PC (like mine)
may well become redundant, just kept for checking out PC browser
performance of you web sites.

The phrase ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’ comes to mind.
Freeway makes use of various low-level Mac OS system architectures
that aren’t available in Windows. Rebuilding Freeway for Windows to a
level approximating what we have on the Mac would be a mammoth task
in the extreme. And then it would be competing in a messy market
filled with all sorts of crappy ‘alternatives’ that make marketing
traction very difficult and expensive to achieve.

Don’t hold your breath.

I’d be happy to see a new version for the Mac

I’d be happy to see a new version for the Mac.

And what is your wish list for new features?

Improved handling of styles

An interface where I can have the styles palette and colour palette open, and more than one Inspector

CSS Divs that don’t jump when I click on them

Layers (like Photoshop etc) would be nice.

Links to work in page preview

I would like a multi back button - / go backwards button.

More than one undo would be pretty revolutionary

My 3 wishes

  • No embedded styles
  • CSS editing like CSS Edit
  • Multiple undo’s

Another vote for more than one undo, but if you guys make a PC version I’ll never forgive you. There’s nothing worse you can do to a good Mac app than compromise it by catering to the lowest common denominator.
