Freeway Pro 7, so what's the verdict?

Before I purchase my upgrade to FWP 7, which I will eventually do, what’s the consensus from recent upgrades who have had a chance to use the new version?

  1. Are you happy with the changes?
  2. Has the GUI been improved?
  3. Do we finally have multiple undos?
  4. What are the best new features?
  5. I didn’t see a lot of posts about bugs. Is the new FWP 7 relatively bug free?

  1. Well, yes. Although FW7 is mostly focussed just on responsiveness, it’s been a very good upgrade.
  2. No. This is due to a lot of old code and to the fact that the app really has to be rewritten. This is a lot of work, perhaps too much to expect from a team as small (sorry) as Softpress. This has to be a side-project, next to the development of the current app. This means twice the size of the team, twice the costs which eventually has to be covered by sales. Will a rebooted UI happen? Probably yes. But this wasn’t the time. Softpress had to catch up, and they did for the most part. The next step will have to be just as big as this one was.
  3. No, same story here. The app really has to be rewritten completely.
  4. More stable, swift, the use of masters and embedded functionalities to master-items, the support of responsive design, all done well. We’re missing out features that don’t require rewriting, features that are obvious maybe, but will see the light of day in the near future I hope. Full support for RGBA is one of them. But again … the next step in development has to be just as big as this one was, solving these issues, adding all those features that still lack might be a good point to start.
  5. Relatively, yes. It seems this release is one of the healthiest ever.

I’ve not yet upgraded, but there have been posts of bugs - namely an issue
with vertical guidelines. The user behavior for entering collapsed divs
with the edit cursor has been either changed or eliminated (select the item
outline then press enter, or double-click the item).

In reading the release pr I was excited to finally see inclusion of my
beloved figure and figcaption (maybe other missing html elements as well?)
and the bold step of allowing hyphens into class-style names.

Once again, I’ve learned something new from pal Ernie. Pretty cool stuff and something I definitely could have used had I known of its existence.
