FreewayTalk Site request

Hi all, just a quickie site request, and not sure how easy it would be, if at all possible.
In the users search results would it be possible to sort them by a different criteria than it is currently.

For example, I type into the search box “mp3” and the top of the results list is a posting from 2006. It’s probably still relevant, and maybe has more “mp3” phrases in the run of answers than any other result, but I’d like to have the option of choosing the list to run from the latest/earliest posting with the option of switching to most relevant.

I just think this would be more help with answers to some of the newer actions rather than older, more manual way of achieving results.

Not knocking the site though Walter, it’s a great resource for us all.

I’ll take a look at this. The search engine already works in a sort of
“quality ranked” manner, with the highest ranking for the messages
that mention the search term more frequently. I don’t think that date
of posting is even considered as part of the metadata for these
searches, simply because believe it or not, most things get mentioned
over and over on this list – perennials, if you will.

Sphinx is a very deep search engine, though, and I’m not sure I’ve
even scratched the surface of what it can do. You can help it, too, by
adding terms to your search request (“MP3” is a very widely-discussed
term, “MP3 loading” might bring up a different and more focused set of
results.
