FTP Upload Issue

I have been trying all day to upload my website to the FTP, and I want to use Freeway’s internal FTP uploader, but it is continuing to give me an error that says the FTP server is not responding.

It looks like it connects, and it says ‘Comparing Files’ for about 45 seconds before giving the error. There are no files in the directory to compare with, so I don’t know why it stops there.

I use Yummy FTP for my WordPress site, and when I plug in the info it connects just fine. I just don’t want to go third party if I can get Freeway’s uploader to work.

Thank you all in advance for your help!

Have you tried toggling the Passive FTP checkbox to whatever it isn’t
at right now? This can help…

That has been happening to me all day here in the UK. But now it seems to be uploading OK - strange does that mean it was my webhost or my connection?

Also been on today querying the fact that Freeway 5 uploads the whole darn thing everytime which is really annoying especially with quite a few mp3s and PDFs.

I was having the same issue, the toggle worked.
Thanks Keith.

Just in case, how does one use an external stand alone ftp client, such as Fetch which I use. Do you just upload the site file as is and place it in your www file on your server?

Yes - the contents of the ‘site’ folder on your mac get copied into your www or public_html or ht docs (depending on how it is named) on your server.

Exactly.

Freeway’s built-in FTP feature is usually the best way to upload, as
that lets Freeway handle managing the files and folders for you.
Otherwise you’ll have to spend time checking which things have been
changed - or upload the whole thing each time.

But if you’re happier using Transmit, Fetch, CyberDuck, Captain FTP,
curl in Terminal, or whatever - you’re absolutely free to do so!
There can be occasions when that’s a more sensible option.
