Even if I open my FW document and import a new image onto 1 page, and click upload, the whole site (some 60 pages) uploads. And, half the time there’s a javascript error, which stops the upload.
I am not changing anything else apart from importing 1 image - what would be causing this full upload every time. As I’m building the site and working with the client it’s happening a lot each day which is very time consuming (approx 1-2 hours purely on uploading amends).
I click on the first page and click ‘Preview’ and the page publishes. If I then go to the next page and preview, then the one that had published gets a black dot next to it again as if somethings changed when nothing has.
At this rates I cannot complete the site as I spend all my time uploading and proofing.
Some Actions can cause this behavior, because they have to publish the entire site to work out the information they need. This is very rare, though.
Another reason you may see this is if your site uses External Stylesheets, and you have made a change to a global (permanent) style by editing one page that uses that style. This can cause all the other pages that link to that stylesheet to recalculate their layout based on the changes in the style (maybe you bumped up a font size – that can cause all fixed-size elements that contain that text style to resize). Using internal stylesheets works around that, at the expense of making your HTML pages more top-heavy with duplicate style code.
One thing to try when troubleshooting this particular problem is to change your Site folder (in the Document Setup) to a new, empty folder, publish once, and upload once through Freeway. Once Freeway does that round-trip, it will have a list of all the files on the server and all the files on the local cache (the Site Folder) and it will know which of these are the newest.
Generally, Freeway will avoid uploading a file that does not have changes, but it will consider certain things to have “changed” the page that you might not agree are actually changes to that page.

So even if I ‘upload’ save and close, open and click ‘upload’ again without making any changes or doing anything other than clicking ‘upload’ the whole site goes again.
I suspect it’s an external stylesheets problem / styles issue then.
Try this: upload from Freeway at the end of the day. In the morning, before you make any other changes in Freeway, upload again and see if anything uploads at all. (Shouldn’t do, but you never know.) This may isolate a problem with clock drift between your Mac and your server.
The issue you are seeing – with the pages marking themselves as “dirty” – isn’t specifically related to this, but I’d like to isolate it and see if it’s involved. Could be a small but expensive battery you need to purchase.

By server Walter means the online place where your web site lives.
Freeway will check the last modified timestamp for each file in the
remote location and compare those with the matching files on your Mac.
If there’s a difference (either because they are really older or simply
because there’s a sync problem with the two different computer clocks)
then Freeway will upload those items, just in case they really are
different.

Hi Nathan,
If you received any Actions from us before we released, could you remove them from the ~/Library/Application Support/Freeway Pro/Actions/General/ directory and try again? These may have been the Social Media Actions and/or the Showcase Action.
If you’re still having a problem, send your file into us at support(at)softpress.com and we’ll see what’s causing the problem.

Is it happening on a smallish file? If so, send it in to us at support(a)softpress.com and we’ll see if we can see the cause.

Ditto for me. I have a 100-page site that publishes in its entirety every time. I’m not using external stylesheets, nor the Showcase or Social Media actions.
Actions I am using include: Favicon, ScriptyLightbox, CSS Menus, SIte Mapper, Vimeo. My site is a few years old, but this issue is relatively recent, and so I suspect if an action is to blame, it’s either Site Mapper, ScriptyLightbox or Vimeo, as these are the latest ones I’ve added; the rest have been with the site since the beginning.
BTW, when I call up the Actions palette the “Used” column is empty, so in order to see what actions I’m using in my doc I have to look through my individual pages. Is that right?
Since upgrading to the latest FW version - my full site uploads on the problem site have stopped and all is behaving.
That’s good news.
Derek, are you using 5.6.2? If you upload, and then upload again without making any changes, does everything get uploaded? Note that the first time you open your site in 5.6.2, everything will be republished (and uploaded). If you want to try this without uploading, give some items in your Site Folder a label color in the Finder and then republish, or preview in a browser. If the labels are removed then the files are republishing.
Aside from the full uploads, all my inside Javascript error that had been occurring have gone too. A firm thumbs up for making sure you have the latest version installed folks.
Not the case for me, I’m afraid. I updated to 5.6.2 last night, but the problem persists.
However, I’ve had a closer look and it looks like the pages that are publishing every time contain the Vimeo action. Could that be the culprit?
One exception: I have three Home pages for three different languages, and only one of them feels the need to publish every time. No Vimeo here, and the only difference I can find between them is the Site Mapper File Location action — the page containing it publishes; the others do not.
Yes, I have tried that. After 5.6.2 I got the full site upload you’ve described. I then closed and reopened the doc, hit Publish, and it published most of my pages (the ones, it seems, with Vimeo and Site Mapper File Location actions on them).
I can do this all day, hitting Save after a publish, and then immediately publishing. Every time FW republishes most of my pages.
Hmm, I’d start by duplicating the Freeway file and removing the Vimeo Action as a test to see if that makes a difference.

Yup, I’ve had a look, and the republish happens on pages with the ScriptyLightbox action. My Vimeo action lives on a single page accessed by SLBoxes on many pages, so that was throwing me off the scent.
In the event it’s important, my ScriptyLightbox actions are all “blank” in the action palette. That is, there is no Media Width or Media Height indicated, and the QT Controller checkbox is unticked.

Nope -188Mb
I will redownload 5.6.2 and copy paste pages into a new doc to see if I can isolate the problem. But it is doing it every time! ie uploading unchanged mp3, zip, video files and a bucket load of scripty pages
I have had the same problem, since applying the site mapper action. I have just removed that and each page (on a large site) has been adjusted again, so it will upload the whole site again but i am hoping thereafter it will stop…
