FWP seems to be stripping out a Map area

I’m using some .ai files as a Target Image each with a map area applied in Illustrator, but I can’t work out whether they just don’t work in Illustrator or FWP is stripping them out. Any ideas guys?

Kryters.

I think that a native Ai is treated the same as any other graphic ie it is reprocessed by FW to create another graphic - a process that will not preserve a Map Area.

What is your Map Area supposed to do?

They need to link to various Amazon pages Dave.

I have Rollovers which control 2 Target images - one is main image and t’uther is a description containing a link to the respective Amazon page. There is probably another way to do this so any suggestions will get a salute.

If you’re exporting all of this from Illustrator, then you’ll need to add the HTML that Illustrator generated through a Markup Item. I’ve never tried to do this.

Another thing to try would be to export your Illustrator image as a regular JPEG or GIF, and place it in Freeway. Then use the Map tool in Freeway to draw your map areas there and link them as you wish. That’s going to be more maintainable in the long run anyway.

Thanks Walt. Glad you’re back at your station again. As I’m using Target Image (rather than Target Layer), there is only one item, so I can’t apply a map area in Freeway as the image and required link obviously changes on Rollover selection.

I agree - method 2 is the way to go. Leave the HTML part to FW and the graphics etc. to Illustrator.

Then if the links change you only need to alter the FW file - not both!

No reason you cant use Target Layer with an image too.

Indeedy, Dave thanks. I was hoping to avoid 40+ stacked containers, but that’s probably me being lazy.

Thanks guys for supercharged assistance.
