Generating my website and upload

The update to Freeway 5 seems to slow down my workflow a lot. Even if I make only a minor change in one page of my website, Freeeway 5 always generates all 220 pages new (which takes several minutes).
When I start uploading the freshly generated site, FW5 starts to generate the complete 220 page website AGAIN (which takes several minutes) and then uploads the entire website of 220 pages. - Well guess, this takes several minutes again… Correcting a minor typing error in a page takes about 15 minutes until the upload is done. Never had this behavior under FW 3 and 4. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Hi Thomas,

This is a problem we are aware of and should be providing a fix for
soon. In the meantime you should be able to workaround the problem by
going to File>Document Setup and then on the Output pane setting the
Resources dropdown to Common Resources.

I hope this helps.

Has this been fixed yet? I have 5.0.2 but I still seem to be uploading the whole site each time - which is a real pain as I have quite a few talks as mp3s uploaded.

Also doing the above as suggested does not really seem to work - it still seems to want to upload the complete site. Also I keep having TCP upload problems using the ftp upload in Freeway 5. Using Transmit to upload seems to work OK though bit of a fag.

Has the problem of the entire site being uploaded whenever any change is made, actually been solved yet?

According to the FW4 documentation, “Freeway will update the local site folder and then begin to synchronize the remote Web space with your site folder. Freeway will recognize what has changed in your site and automatically transfer any files that need to be updated on the remote Web space and clear out any redundant files or folders.”

My switch from Dreamweaver MX to FW5 is on hold since I have a site with lots of photos that “in season” must be updated daily while I’m on the road. A complete re-loading of the site each day would take too much time.

My switch from Dreamweaver MX to FW5 is on hold since I have a site with lots of photos that “in season” must be updated daily while I’m on the road. A complete re-loading of the site each day would take too much time.

In a situation like this where photos need to be updated often you should consider using a CMS instead of doing all the updates in Freeway. This would allow you to login via a browser to an admin page and just update the photos as needed. There are many CMS choices that range from the fairly simple to very complex. Currently there are 3 CMS actions I can think of that integrate with Freeway well. WebYep Suite is one, MiniCMS is another, and Expression Engine being the 3rd.

If I follow your suggestion, that would hand over the management of the photos to the CMS. I should’ve mentioned there are daily audio logs (WAV files from a digital recorder) that are uploaded, too. Will any of the CMS you mentioned also manage the audio files?

Even with those issues resolved, I’d still like to know, does FW5 upload the entire site each time or only the changes?

Thanks for your help …

My experience is Freeway handles uploading changes to sites while ignoring things that stay the same correctly up till version 5. FW5 has had a problem uploading everything instead of just updates. Softpress is aware of it and I believe the recent 5.1.1 update addressed it, but I can’t say for sure since I haven’t made any site updates recently.

So the simple answer yes it does when it works properly.

For me and my current sites, it only uploads changed items. I’ve
checked this out and that’s definitely what’s happening here.

Yes - this has been fixed since 5.0.2 but you have to uplaod the whole site again when you update to 5.1.1! After that it only uploads the changes.
