Ghost Page Size

Here is our page. Works brilliant but I have a question. When you click onto Kontakt it rushes down to the desired page part. BUT when you see the scrollbar within the browsers window there is at least 6000 px space beneath the Kontakt. But the settings of the page are not that big… Where does it come from?

Usually, this comes about because an element is positioned that far down the screen in Freeway, or has grown to that height because of some unfortunate layering of elements. A quick trick to find it is to zoom out in Freeway to the smallest possible size, then use Edit / Select All to highlight every element on the page. Often that will show you what you can’t see, because no matter how far you zoom out, corner handles on page elements are always at least 4px square when an element is selected. You need to have clicked somewhere blank on the page before Select All will actually select elements. Depending on where your cursor focus is when you invoke this command, you may also select all the text in a current container element, or all inline elements, or all pages in the site.

Walter thank you. I thought the same but there is no element that far out from the page.

Can you try removing the Google + and Linked in scripts from this page? They may be doing this. I can’t see any visual element drawn by you that could otherwise be accountable, and I’ve scrubbed through it in the Safari Web Inspector.

I’ve found it out, Walt: it can be difficult if anchors, elements and alternative tags have the same name. I’ve renamed everything, now it works perfect.

Interesting. Well, you need to remember that no two things on the same page may have the same ID. Name and Alt attributes have no such limitations.

Freeway won’t name any two things alike by itself, but if you add an ID manually (through an Extended dialog or HTML Markup) then it has no way of policing that for uniqueness. Freeway’s internal model does not contain any HTML, nor is it saved or expressed in HTML. The transform to HTML comes in a “print” step, where it is a one-way translation.
