Glass buttons???

Hi, I am trying to make glass buttons on my page and have actually found out how…BUT I keep on getting a line/frame around the button, so it’s doesn’t look rounded but square. What do I do wrong?

(answered here as well as this is the better
forum for this kind of question…)

Could you post a link to an example? It may be
that you’re dealing with the standard issue of a
layered graphic being rendered with the page
background colour filling the box (when in JPEG
format), but I’d need to see the item to be able
to tell.

Hi,

Here is a link:

forget to mention that the problem comes when I want to make a rollover! when its only the Glass buttons, no problem but as soon as I put gather them to make a rollover button the problem comes?
Don’t mind the other buttons, just look at the one called “forside”

Thanks for taking a look at it

:-) You are just great, I change something with gif/jpg and that helped…must admit that I am not quite sure what I did and why it worked, but at least I know what I did

I am very new to this, so my page is really just in the beginning.

Okay, this is a stack of graphics grouped
together and used as a rollover button, right?
Probably the simplest complete solution here
would be to select the group of items - the
container rather than the items themselves - and
give it a white fill. It seems to be cutting a
hole through the graphic panel beneath it, right
through to the page background colour.

Did you make the text for that button by creating
an HTML box? Grouping HTML and graphic boxes
causes the group container (the new box that
groups them together) to be created as an HTML
item. Grouping just graphic items together makes
the group object a graphic box.

As your page was made with the CSS Layout button
dimmed - that’s the large CSS button in your
document’s toolbar - then everything’s made as
‘flat’ unlayered structures… and unlayered HTML
items slice holes through whatever’s beneath.

So your solution for the future would be to
create your button text using a graphic box, NOT
an HTML box.

And your solution for what you have now is to
select the button group item and use the
Inspector palette, third tab along, to change the
object type from HTML to GIF. (Or JPEG or PNG -
but GIF will probably be best here.)

NOTE that it can be a bit fiddly selecting the
group object that surrounds the rollover elements
rather than the elements inside. Point right at
the edge of the whole thing. When you click and
the Inspector palette’s title reads “HTML Item”
then you’ve selected that HTML container item -
and can convert it to a graphic. If you keep
having trouble then you can click down through
the stack of objects by holding down the Command
(Apple) and the Option (Alt) keys and clicking
again, and again…

You are such great help, thank you so much for explaining.

I still haven’t found out how to group things, can’t get it to work when I try? but when I succeed I am quite sure that you what you wrote about “click down through the stack” will be helpful for me.

What may be confusing you is the fact that
Freeway groups things by wrapping them in a new
container… but you can still select items
within the group. Most other applications turn a
collection of grouped items into one wrapped-up
object so that you can’t (easily) select the
items within it. There are advantages and
disadvantages to Freeway’s method. But once you
know and get used to it you’ll find it somewhat
easier than it is for you now.

Grouping the items used in a rollover is
essential IF the items are layered - which means
either you’ve been working with that CSS buton
enabled or you’ve clicked the Layer checkbox for
each item in the Inspector palette. You will get
around to this sort of thing so I’m just planting
the seeds…
