iPhone has an ENORMOUS default size: 970px wide by whatever height.
I usually design for 750 or 800 wide, and center it. Many people
(where by people I mean those who actually like to read things) don’t
use full-width browser windows even if they are on a stupid-wide
screen, just because it’s nearly impossible to read any length of text
when the line length is greater than 12 or 15 average words. Any more
than that and your eye gets lost on the return trip from the right
side back to the left, and you spend all kinds of time re-orienting
yourself within the text.
