Google Maps Action

Hi all,

I just (successfully) placed a Google map on a site I’m making, by simply copying their code and pasting it into a Markup Item. Worked fine. Then I saw Paul Dunning’s screencast about using the Google Maps Action, and thought it looked better than what I was doing. So I drew a Google Maps action on my page, and hit the ‘Sign up for key’ button in the Actions palette, and instead of being taken to the page that Paul had in his screencast, I was taken to a page that told me that the V2 of the API was deprecated, that I should use V3, but didn’t tell me where to go for it. I’ve since visited about a hundred pages at Google, most of which seem to redirect me to that first page, and I’m none the wiser. Can anyone tell me how to use this action?

best wishes,

Paul Bradforth

Hi Paul,

Its a right fash now. The map on one of my clients disappeared over the weekend and I found Joe’s method (after a fashion, slight changes on google side) was the solution. I did require playing about a bit before I got a key that worked. Somehow suspect its hooked to my account rather than clients website but doubt her b&b will ever hit the usage before I have to start paying.

Thanks Seoras; I tried the link above but couldn’t find a Google page like the one Joe talked about. It works perfectly if I just use the Google embed code in a Markup Item, so I guess that’s what I’ll do. I’d have like to have used the Action though…
