I’ve created a graphic html email newsletter which I intend to send to around 40 people, perhaps a couple of times a year.
I’ve looked into MailChimp etc but this might be an over-the-top solution for what I need.
The PDF What’s New in Freeway 5.5 says that sending a html email via Apple Mail is “just a very basic method of sending out the email”.
Does the word “basic” mean that the email will have less chance of being viewed correctly, compared to say MailChimp? Or does the word “basic” mean that I’ll have to manage the list (not MailChimp) and I won’t have access to results and stats (which I can live without)?
Hi Mark,
That is pretty much it. With a service like MailChimp you can rely on
them to manage the list, subscribing new users, unsubscribing users
who want to leave etc. Their servers also take the strain of making
sure they don’t get blacklisted for spam. Managing your own lists in
Apple Mail isn’t impossible but you will need to make sure you can do
all of these things yourself. You will also need to make sure you can
send out to the recipients without sharing their details with each
other. So don’t just put all of their details in the to field.
I would suggest searching for an AppleScript that manually sends out
each email from a list of recipients using the Mail app. That way you
can quickly send out all of the mails without dumping everyone in the
to or bcc fields (bcc-ing recipients can get the email marked as spam).
Regards,
Tim.
