I am working on a clients site and I am running into an issue.
If you look at the site (it is not even close for critiques) the logo on the top left is a gif. It originally is a jpeg but through past advice changed it to a gif in FW. it still does not look smooth. BTW - I have finally upgraded my computer - from a pb g4 17" matte to a macbook Pro glossy 17" WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I CAN SEE… LOL
Actually it started as a jpeg then in ps I took out the background only and the only way to keep that way is to save it for web and design - which goes to a gif format

It is actually a png - you may have imported a gif but it is set to output as a png
It appears that you have some white bits left on the perimeter that are making it look bitty.
What file were you working from - did the client send you a full size image - or did you get it from their website?
It was a png when I looked earlier - you must have updated the site - I downloaded
babybootyshoplogo.png
It doesn’t matter what format it is when you import into FW - the output depends on the settings in the image inspector.
But as I said earlier the fact that you have some white bits left round it dont help its bittiness.
How big is the original file - this is the one that you want to take the background off but keep it as a psd and import that into FW and then use the image inspector to try different outputs.
And BTW your background image is HUGE at 1.2MB - reduce this drastically by changing the compression etc in PS - the quality does not have to be that good as a background image.
I did change it to a gif.

THat is what i ended up doing… so the logo in there is a psd.
It looks sharper - but…

If you look at my example the background image is the same dimensions as your original ie 1600 x 1200 but only 278k whereas your revised one is 960 × 1280 and 637.18KB
You have only actually reduced its dimensions to get it smaller and probably not changed compression.
The BBlogo is much better but still some stuff round the edges. Personally I would import the psd into FW and export as a png with millions of colours.

Work on as large a file for the logo as you have available if necessary increase the res from 72 if that is what it was - remove the white/extra bits with the eraser or whatever in PS - save as psd and then import.
If you use the eraser on a low res file the chunks you rub out will be larger and you will get the stepped effect.

Dangerous advice Dave!
Resolution resampling stuff requires some proper understanding of how
image resolution works.

True. Julie, I think the best approach is indeed to output as a PNG
set to millions of colours, as that won’t produce the 1-bit clipping
‘transparency’ halo. The second-best option would be to set the
anti-aliasing for those images to a darkish grey, in Freeway. I am of
course assuming that the graphics have nicer-looking edges in
Freeway’s design view.
