Great (brief) lecture by Jason Santa Maria

Very good set of questions and conversation or thought starters, as
well as some walk-it-like-you-talk-it examples.

Thanks Walter, I really enjoyed it, was very good!
The pressure of a print media look did defiantly effect the way Jason does deign or constructs his layouts even though it sounds also like he looking for a way out?
That’s the only confusing part for me but… he is also a great designer.

Hey Walter, taking about confusing I was just looking at the Mike Matas blog http://www.mikematas.com/ ( the iphone, ipad interface designe r) site and looking under the hood it shows me he is using the latest mootools with JSONP for image links & info. I thought that was something for linking to another server? but it’s linking back to the same server. Also noticed by using JSONP it’s not compatible with IE. My question is Why would you do it like this? Is it a little cover up, I’m confused? Also I remember an apple HTML5 version of this that was not as good, it only worked in Safari and remember they also had to use blurred images instead of the script creating them. Thanks, Pete.

Yeah, I’ve seen this before. Basically, I think he’s using some lazy-
loading here, where the images are all “in” the page, but aren’t
loaded until they’re needed. As far as IE is concerned, he might not
care, or he might be doing something clever on the server to detect IE
and serve a different page. Have you tried visiting the site with that
browser?

No I didn’t check in IE (I only did an IE render which shows the gallery missing ), the link that got me to this site said it didn’t work in IE and only the latest modern browsers.

I did check the mootools script Mike Matas
which says:
(‘JSONP ‘+src+’ will fail in Internet Explorer, which enforces a 2083 bytes length limit on URIs’);var script=new

Here are the links http://api.mikematas.com/photo?callback=Request.JSONP.request_map.request_0&album_key=ag1taWtlbWF0YXNibG9ncgwLEgVBbGJ1bRjpBww

Anyway I suppose it does not matter I was just interested.

Many thanks, Pete

I do like the bit about one template layout does not need to fit all content. Something many web designers would not feel comfortable with.

Interestingly (or maybe not) I couldn’t view JSM’s video in Safari 5 - but now I have updated to 5.0.1 - I can.

Some good things being said. Nothing stunningly new, but some important stuff.
