I have just uploaded a new web site (second one David!), only one page at the mo.
The text is a mixture of “Greek” and English! so what have I done wrong please?

No need to now, as I have figured it out over a cup of tea this am!
For reasons I cannot explain, maybe that second glass of wine… I had formated part of the home page text as HTML, when uploaded that became “Greek”.
Changing to “normal” text, bought things back to normal
Thanks for the reply, back to work on more pages now

What exactly do you mean by ‘normal’ - do you not want your text to be HTML and therefore search engine friendly?

Hi Brian
Interesting - if you copy your Greek text and paste it into BBEdit you get:
Fresh Blueberries from Aldeburgh, Suffolk
I think what you want to do is to change your page encoding to Western ISO Latin, from ISO-8859-1 which is what you have just now, and republish.

Thats it! I think this has only happened since I upgraded to 5.1.1 a couple of days ago?
How do I make that change, I just had a look but cannot see where I can do this…
Thanks

OK found it in doc set and made the changes. Still the same…
The “box” is HTML and the text is HTML, anymore ideas?
Only when I change the text inside the box to gif does it work ok

Document Setup only governs the defaults for new pages made after that preference is set. It will not affect any existing pages.
In order to change pages that you have already made, select the Master Page that controls them and look in the Inspector (right most tab when the page itself–nothing on it–is selected) for the Character Set options. If you have more than one Master Page, then make this change on each one of them. Spot check a few of the child pages to make sure that this setting has “taken”, then publish again.

The reason it works then is that the text is no longer text - at this point the text has become graphics and the page encoding is irrelevant.
Try a new page from a master with the encoding changed and copy/paste the text over as the encoding is showing as the same on the web.

David and Walter,
Cracked it I think!
I was using the font Symbol in my html box, I changed this to Georgia and it works ok as u can see. Why it works no idea, but many thanks for the ideas, and info on master pages etc
