guides

Hi Folks,

I’m new to Intaglio and straight off I’m having an issue with something basic. Quite simply the guides.

I drag a guide across then drag another and the first gets wiped, I drag a guide down and the vertical guide starts to be wiped etc. etc…
All I want is for the guides to act as per every other program. Drag across, drag down and they stay put, as many as you require and wherever.
Another point is when I right click they all disappear.

What am I doing wrong or are they poorly implemented or just very buggy ??

regards,

s

Hi ‘s’

That sounds very strange!

My application works exactly as you want it to. They only go away when I click ‘clear guides’

Can it be a settings problem ??

Hi Litta,

I think there’s a bug somewhere. I’ve cleaned up my computer, restored permissions etc. but the guides are still acting very odd.
Checked settings not that there are many, nothing.

Guess I’ll get onto Purgatory support after the hols. I’m hoping they aren’t so named for a reason. Begining to think I’ve wasted my money.

Just a guess: are your guides upon the working space or outside?
Never had a prob with it.

Outside - so thats the reason ! Any guides outside the page margin act differently and I must say not intuitively.
Why don’t they work the same on the pasteboard, if it is a pasteboard as such, maybe I’m missing something but all I wanted was to define the page and it seems thats not possible or at least I’ll have to work around it. mmmm.

Anyway, thanks Frank, I won’t now have to sit up all night trying various permutations.

For what reason you need guides outside the page layout?
Just curious.

Well as I initially wished, to define the page (I’ve a colour to go over the whole page, thus obscuring the page), to use while creating items on the pasteboard and also just to have guides on hand.

I can’t see why they’ve been ‘disabled’ over the non page area.

One way round this is to specify a larger work area.

In Page Setup, choose ‘Super B/A3’ and Horizontal orientation. At 100%, the work area fills the window. Then choose ‘Zoom to fit’. There’s sufficient space for 2 A4-sized pages and a bit more—and no misbehaving guides.

Thanks Ian,

Not such an insurmountable problem as I first thought, shall just have to work around as you suggest. Learning curve.

Still think they could be made to work beyond area. For example if I wished to define an A5 and required bleeds etc.

Anyway, no point in bemoaning the point.

Hello,
as I can see, when a guide is not on the page, it has to be considered as deleted ! for the guides, the pasteboard is a kind of trash ; try this : moving a shape or the mouse over a guide acts as an eraser !
it is also no more possible to move a guide when it is not on the page !
it’s very curious !

when I work in a RagTime layout, to delete a guide I put it out of the page ; so I get the symbol of the trash under the mouse and everything is clear ; to work on a great area, I use a drawing-component in the layout, but I don’t work on the page it-self, but in the opened drawing-component, which is unlimited ; all that is not possible with Intaglio… it would be nice to have the PAO features of RagTime combined with the drawing ones of Intaglio !

best regards

jacques

Hi Jacques,

Thanks for replying.

It would have been nice that there was a working ‘pasteboard’ area.
I guess you get what you pay for, though it would be good to see some activity from the developers.
I think they’re missing a trick as it seems a powerful and cheaper alternative to Adobe would go down very well.
