Help! Newbie Aspect Ratio Confusion!

Hope you expert designers can shed some light. My boyfriend and I designed the site on a Mac powerbook 17inch laptop with an aspect ratio of 1295 x 770. Which looks just right on laptops but totally off on iMacs and cinema displays. Which I looked up - they seem to have 1650 x 50 or 1280 x 800 or 1152 x 770. PC’s, I have no idea. How do I center and layout my site to get it right for all of them? I am a photographer so most people will be looking at my site on Mac’s.

Also, When I google my name is says Index, and a bunch of code under my name. What did I do wrong?

Thanks
P.S. I know my contact link is down I have to re-upload.

Did you try the centring the page with the Inspector Palette > Page > Align - Centre

Your index page has no text to display in Google, as you using gif text on all the page.

You need to add text in the page>Meta Tags. Create a New Meta tag > name: “description” Value: " the text you want the Google description to show"

This is just the basics, but if you want to be found by anything else but your domain name, you need to add alt tags to images/git text , or consider adding HTML text.

The reason your home page title is Index is because that’s apparently the title of your page. Without anything selected on your home page, enter something in under Title in the Page Inspector palette. Just make sure that under File, it remains whatever you need it to be, probably index.html, but use whatever name your ISP tells you to.

As far as the width of the page, I’m looking at it in a browser window that’s set to be 800 px wide, and it looks fine. You should design for browser window sizes, it’s good that you asked, as not everyone opens their browser window to full screen.

thanks! I will try all this. I work in an office doing retouching we have all large cinema displays so the browsers open larger. I notice other websites seem fine but mine is up in the top0 left corner and all empty space.

Hi Cara
Can I just say on your index page where you have your slideshow that the images are not displayed on screen long enough to completely load before the next one comes along. And that is me with broadband though admittedly running a bit slower than usual.

Might I also suggest with all that gif text you might want to try Walters Carousel action for your images because at the moment the whole page has to redraw to display the next page.
