Hide all layers but one, while I work?

Is there a way to show/ hide layers while I work in page mode… the same way you can in photoshop? Im going to have about 30 complicated layers stacked up, and managing them all seems like it will be a nightmare.

I thought about having ScriptyLightbox “bring in” the html items separately but I cant get that to work. Frames could work too but its my understanding that I should avoid a frame website.

ideas / suggstions? Thanks so much… I dont know what Id do without all the helpful information on this board!!!

And why isn’t there a layers palette in FWPro like in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator? Would seem a very helpful way to organize and build sites, at least to my “designer” mind. Is there some reason that can’t be done, Softpress?

Well, layers in Freeway have a completely different meaning than in
Illustrator or Photoshop. There is a Layers palette of sorts – if you
click on the header at the top of the site pane, it will turn into a
list of all the elements on the current page. That list IS a layers
palette, in that you can select items in the list, drag and drop them
into different hierarchical position, and manipulate them in other
ways. Clicking on an item in the list selects it for editing in the
design area, too. The point is that layers in Freeway are individual
drawn items. If you group a number of drawn items, then they become
something more like what you would get in Illustrator or Photoshop.

So, I guess the answer is no? There is no way to have a stack of 30 layers, just select one and view it separately. Seems like it would be a fairly simple thing to do… since it is only effecting the page view and not the site in any way.

The only alternative that I can come up with is to bring the layer to front, work on it and then drag it back to where it was… gets kinda complicated with 30-40 layers though.

Add it to my wish lists : )

There is already a feature that comes close to this. Try the
following. Select your 15th layer down using the Site pane in Page
view. Then press Return on your keyboard. That layer will instantly
appear at the top of the stack, and you can use keyboard commands to
navigate into it if it’s a text element and make editing changes to
the content, or use the Inspector to make changes to the element’s
other properties and see them in real time. Once you click on
something else, that temporary “top” will vanish, and go back where it
was.

Thanks Walter… That works great… for some layers. I tried it with an HTML box with a table nested in it and when I hit return just the HTML box appears… no table… and if I just select the table and hit return, nothing happens.

Also, it wont work on my stack of graphic items. Does each graphic need to be inside its own HTML box for this to work?

Great tip though!!! I’m using it already : )
