Holding page

Hi,

Sorry, but this is going to be difficult to get across what I mean when I don’t know the technical terms for things…

can any kind Freeway users point me in the right direction to figure out how to change what comes up on google search page when I search for my web page hdbrowsbrighton.co.uk.
The title is ‘Holding Page’ and text under this says…‘Welcome to Your New Hosting Package. This is your index.html page. Please replace this when you upload your website’.
How do I change this - I’m using Freeway 5 Express.

Thanks in advance
Jodie

Hi Jodie

This is what google saw as your site when it last visited your URL

When google re-visits your site, your new pages will be listed

You could speed that process up if you create a google site map. Have a look in your hosting control panel for “google site map”.

Hi David,

thanks for the information. I will do just that…

Is there any way to physically change the text later on anyway, for example if I want to put an offer, or a punchy piece of text to appear on google search?

You can add text in a page “description” alt tag However google will decide if the text used will be shown in your listing. It will decide if the text you use is relevant to the site.

Jodie…

I don’t know if your site is final, but maybe you can make a few adjustments.

Th heading of your page (logo, company name, address, FB icon) take up a huge amount of screen space.

The text under the photos is very spread out. Meaning, it looks like there’s a ton of returns in the paragraphs.

Maybe you can put all that top stuff ((logo, company name, address, FB icon) on one line at the top, which will move everything else up and the text below might be more visible. I didn’t even realize it was there at first.

Not sure what’s going on with the weird spacing. Is all of your text in one box?

Then again, maybe it’s just me!
