Horizontally center a div

Hi,

I couldn’t get the other suggestions for this to work…

I’ve got a div with an assortment of text boxes and buttons. I dropped it into another div set to 0% left and right. I’ve been trying to center the inner div using auto margins, as a centered table, etc., but I can’t get it to work.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you’ve inserted an inline or inflow div and you want to center it in the
div that you inserted it into, simply select the inline div and choose
(FWY6) Align: center from the Measurements palette. What this does (and you
can also achieve the same result this way) is to select the inflow div and
set the left and right margins to auto.

Best regards,

Unfortunately, my seat at work is 5.5.

The method I described (select the inserted div, open the custom Margin
dialog - there is a checkbox at the bottom that will set the lef/right
margins to “auto”) still totally works for your version.

I can still work in 5x, but since 6 has much better positioning tools imo,
I tend to develop new things using that platform. ALSO WAY MORE STABLE with
regard to inline items.

Tell your boss The Big Erns says “upgrade!”

I hammered away at this for a good forty minutes before stumbling upon the requirement that in order for the suggestion to work the inner object had to be an inflow item.

Without that tidbit no margin field can be found anywhere.

Figured out and fixed. Thanks.

I gave up on this for a while and am taking another shot at it.

It turns out that one crucial step was missing. I copied and pasted the div (a Hype object within a markup item) into an html box. The animation stuck to the top left, with out any centering options.

I then took that html box, shrunk it to fit the div then copied and pasted the html box into yet another html box. Then I was able to set the margins.
