CALLING DELTADAVE OR DAN

HELP PLEASE

More Help Please on my other website

I have loaded up a slideshow on a single page - I now want to load up a number of other slide shows to different pages.

loaded the 1st no problem

Loaded the second slideshow to a different page with all the extras and it shows the first slide.

I have rechecked the files that I up loaded.

But I know that when it up loads the second set of extra resources they try and store them in the same space.

What can I do?

A MORE IN DEPTH VERSION OF THE PROBLEM

Problems having more than one slideshow on a web site

I am building a website in Freeway 5 Pro.

On this website I plan on having different pages with a different slideshow by SSP on these different pages.

IE
Folio Page 1 - will have Slide Show 1
Folio Page 2 - will have Slide Show 3
Folio Page 3 - will have Slide Show 3
Folio Page 4 - will have Slide Show 4

I have uploaded all the different slideshows to the server

Folder: SSP
--------> Folio 1
--------> Folio 2
--------> Folio 3
--------> Folio 4

On another site I have put a number of galleries into one album (So I understand how to do that)

Now give that the images.xml file need editing when creating the album. I have done this so that it is know where the files are that is needed for the various slide shows

Uploaded Folio Page 4 - with Slide Show 4 . Every thing works fine so far
Uploaded Folio Page 1 - with Slide Show 1 . Problem - It shows slide show 4 on page 1, instead of slideshow 1

I looked on the server and guessed that it could be because slide show 4 files which get uploaded after slideshow 1, are over writing the files to slideshow 1

I therefore changed the images.xml files to images-1.xml & images-4.xml
I also changed the param files and the index files the same way, Removed all the previous files~

I then remade the HTML boxes, re-imported the Loader files, added the action ‘Uploaded extra resources’ attached all the relievent file (in the same way as the first working gallery) but this time denoting which slideshow they have been marked with to the relievent box on the page relating to the different slide shows.

But nothing.

Can some one please give me some help as to how I should get different slideshow to work on different pages when they all get up loaded to the same places on the server

Before it gets suggested that I put all slideshows in 1x gallery album on a single page. that is not what is required.

when they all get uploaded to the same places on the server

This where youre problem is you have to upload the different slideshows to different folders or subfolders of the same folder and then edit the xml file to suit.

It may be that you will have to use an FTP application to upload the files for you as the FW action may not be specific enough for this use.

Transmit would be my app of choice for this but there are others.

Hi Dave

Thanks I have used Fetch to up load the albums and given the albums different names.

I have edited the images.xml files so that the slide show knows where the images are for its own slide show

This works for one gallery.

But does not seem to work with a second gallery

I have then given the images.xml file a id, so it reads images1.xml

I have also done the same to the param.xml file so it is param1.xml

I have also done the same to the index.html file so it is index1.html

I have then gone into the param1.xml file and changed the script so that when it looks for the images.xml file it now know to look for the images1.xml file instead.

I have then up loaded this these files using the ‘upload extra resources’ action as though I needed to up load a single gallery

It all works fine given the file name changes.

But when I do the second gallery and give it it’s own id using 2

I have changed the param.xml files to: param2.xml
I have changed the images.xml files to: images2.xml
I have changed the index.html files to: index2.html
I have then gone into the param2.xml file and changed the script so that when it looks for the images.xml file it now know to look for the images2.xml file instead.

Just the same as I had changed the first set that worked

But now when I up load the galleries on ether page won’t work?

Not sure what I can do now because ether set of files has its own id.

Your suggestion of putting the files that would normally get up loaded with the ‘upload extra resources’ action into a separate folder does not work ether. I guess that this is because the pages with the slide shows on needs then in the open to access then. When hidden in a folder it can’t see them and does not know where to look.

Not sure what else to try now, any suggestions?

Hi Dan

Did that for the other website Warwickshire 7s with your advice and that worked for having a single Freeway page with a number of albums in a multiple gallery. on a single page.

This compiles all the galleries in together.

What I am after is a number of pages with separate galleries that are relevant to that page alone.

I hope its a good game for you.

Snapper,

I approached this slightly differently for this site: www.scottish-photography.co.uk In part I have to admit out of general ignorance of an alternative and possibly better way of doing it. I can see were your coming from with this question.

It was difficult getting info about integrating SSP into freeway, thanks Dan and Dave (ao), for patience and expertise.

Anyway, I used iFrames to link to the separate gallery folders and had the text ‘loading…’ positioned below the slideshow, as it seemed to take awhile for it to load using this method, though feedback from people viewing the site has been ok about this.

I guess that this is because the pages with the slide shows on needs then in the open to access then. When hidden in a folder it can’t see them and does not know where to look.

Thats where you have to edit the paths in the xml file so that it will know where to look.

An alternative is to put each gallery in a separate folder along with the FW document.

Create sub folders in the FW document named for example with the name of the gallery. ie gallery1, gallery2 etc.

Within each of these folders create an index.html page that has your SSP slideshow on it and upload each different slideshow into its own folder.

Then in FW you can link to each gallery using www.jamiejonesphoto.com/gallery1/ www.jamiejonesphoto.com/gallery2/ etc this will mean that you probably wont have to muck about with the xml files too much as they will be in the same folder as their slideshow files.

Thanks Dave

Hmm

Put a subfolder called ‘galleryissue’ in Freeway, added a test page called ‘Galleryissue’ in the folder.

Set the page up:

Imported the Loader.swf
opted for the Flash Extras option (Always seem to need that)
Added the files; index.html, Images.xml & param.xml

The slide show is outside the sub folder where all the galleries are stored.

But that didn’t work.

Tried having it inside the folder but on sight update, it seemed to remove it.

Not sure how to route the xml files out back out of one folder and into others.

I see your logic in making this work, but this will cause issues when updating all the time.

There has to be a way of doing this because I have seen sights where there are more than one flash item on a page.

I would suggest that you put all your images in one ssp folder and create separate XML files for each one. Then in your XML files you’d have to change the LG and TN path’s for each one and then before the location address’s you could add " … " like:

../images/album1/lg or tn

That would look for an “images” folder in the root directory with only “album1” loading “lg” (large) photos. You’d then have to do that for each slideshow. You’d then also have to rename your “param.xml” files and I think you could probably load just one “expressinstall.swf” file.

Do you have a sample page I could look at to better understand the situation?

Hi Dan

Was it celebrations or commiserations for you with the Superbowl?

Having spent 10 hours on the problem yesterday, I pulled all the info (on where I had finally failed to get to. lol). I have managed to get around some of the problems by using iFrames and pointing the iFrames on different pages into different folders to view the different galleries.

I have to say that I preferred the look of SSP on a page without the use of iFrames.

I currently have three galleries with iframes on the website

  1. http://www.jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/folioone.html
  2. http://www.jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/foliotwo.html
  3. (Folio three is still in production)
  4. http://www.jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/foliofour.html

The Image galleries are in a directory;

Server>FOLDER “ssp”>FOLDER ‘folio1’
Server>FOLDER “ssp”>FOLDER ‘folio2’
Server>FOLDER “ssp”>FOLDER ‘folio4’

Each ‘folio’ folder has the following files

FOLDER “Album1”
Expressinstall.swf
images.xml
index.html
FOLDER “js”
Loader.swf
param.xml
pop.html
pop.swf
FOLDER “resources”
slideshowpro.swf

The index.xml files have not been edited with the route ssp/folio(Number) because the iFrames are looking into the the folder they index as things stand.

But I would like to be in a situation where I am able to bring the slideshow onto the page without the iFrame, if possible.

I understand Daves theory in part of using sub folders.

It would seem that where this has fallen down for me, is because the files images.xml, param.xmal, Slideshowpro.swf and loader.swf all sit on the directory server> this is where they seem to clash when uploaded with the action “upload extra resources”.

I have tried to recreate where I was last night with these test pages.
http://www.jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/testgallerya.html
http://www.jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/testgalleryb.html

I have therefore renamed these files (images.xml, param.xml, loader.swf) to separate them to try and not confuse the system. Giving me the files

images1.xml, param1.xml, loader1.swf
images2.xml, param2.xml, loader2.swf

I have not renamed the index.html file because it only contains this: “This SlideShowPro photo gallery requires the Flash Player plugin and a web browser with JavaScript enabled.”

Given that the action “upload extra resources” uploads the ssp file index.html to the server route; SERVER> where the main index.html file is for my first page of the website. It renames the SSP file to indexa.html. I have therefore uploaded it with each SSP gallery only XXXXXXuploaded a single file

Test Gallery Page A: http://www.jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/testgallerya.html

Test Gallery Page A ,should show the images in folio1

The html box had loader1.swf file imported
The action “upload extra resources”. images1.xml, param1.xml, Slideshowpro.swf, indexa.html

That works and shows the gallery of images I want (folio1)

Now for Test Gallery Page B: http://www.jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/testgalleryb.html

I will do this the same way:

Test Gallery Page B ,should show the images in folio2

The html box had loader2.swf file imported
The action “upload extra resources”. images2.xml, param2.xml, Slideshowpro.swf, indexb.html

This has then been uploaded:

The effect is that both pages (Test Gallery Page A & Test Gallery Page B) both have the gallery space, but no slideshow on ether.

Hi Snapper,

If I read your dilemma correctly you cannot get more than one gallery to
work on your site.

I have done exactly that here:

http://dantucker.co.uk/test/

The way I did it was to have each gallery is it’s own [self-contained]
folder/directory with it’s own index.html page generated by Freeway where I
placed in my case the viewer.swf file from SimpleViewerPro out of LightRoom.

This has the benefit of ease of use for directing people to a particular
gallery
http://dantucker.co.uk/test/landscape/ or /nature/ or /sport/ etc

It also means that my lad can via FTP update his own galleries without
pestering me to update his site.

So to change his galleries all he needs to do is upload and replace these
files in the particular named gallery folder:

gallery.xml
swfobject.js
viewer.swf
    And the image folders:
images
thumb

Best wishes Peter

Snapper,

If using iFrames and it looks as if that method has been rightfully superseded, the SSP gallery shouldn’t look any different.

Which is what I was also trying to say - then the action “upload extra resources” could be used to upload all the gallery/ssp created files into that folder called jamiejonesphoto.co.uk/gallery1 or whatever

I’m going to upgrade to 1.3.7 today for SSP Lightroom and try and do this and see what I can do with it. Once I figure it out without the i-frames I’ll write out how I did it.

I didn’t read this whole thread, but been using SSP for years.

You could save yourself A LOT of time and use SlideShowPro Director to catalog/add/change/remove the photos you use in your galleries.

Also all you need to add a gallery to your page is to add the simple embed markup where you want it…

take a look at my site, both my blog and website use it the way i explained it…

I agree, Director would make your site work easier. I didn’t get a chance to build separate Lightroom exports and put them on two separate HTML pages, but I will get to it today for sure. I had a big project land on my lap and it’s sorting and deleting for most of my evening.

Is anyone around for some asistance with SSP 1.3.1 plug in for Lightroom 2 and FW 5?
I’m building my company website, and I need to insert a slide show (actually one for every project presented on the site). After reading around in freeway talk, I thought that I would go with the SSP plugin for Lightroom, but after reading a few threads I can’t get this thing working.
Keep in mind that I no previous experience, so I need to be walked through it.
My original design Idea had the user clicking on a thumbnail and having the slide show show up.
Is it better to go with the gallery if im going to have multiple albums? I would rather not.
Also, what is this flash plugin that has been talked about and how do I get it? Do I need it?
I’ve created the album in Lightroom and exported it, so no problem there.
Then I tried drawing a html box, importing the loader.swf, selecting flash extras, selecting upload extra sources and using the pull down menus to load the extra files.
Which files are they? tried various listed in thread and I can only get a black box when tested.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really tried to do it with the info in the thread.
Thanks in advance.

A couple of additional things.
I’m using Freeway Pro.
Should CSS Layout be on while I do all this?
