How to create a downloadable document?

The tutorial does not instruct on linking to download a document from the resource file. Is this possible?

Hi Howard,

You can do this using a Resource link (which is mentioned in the tutorial).

  1. Select the text or box that you want to link
  2. Choose Link from the Format menu
  3. Choose Resource from the Link Type popup
  4. Click on the Resource popup and choose Other…
  5. Select the file you want to link to

In the tutorial, Resource links are used for images, which will open directly in a browser. Browsers also tend to open PDF files, but users can still download them (and images for that matter), and there is a way to indicate that they should be downloaded rather than opened (which will become easier in the next version of Xway). Compressed (e.g. zip) files are automatically downloaded.

Thanks Jeremy,

After your explanation I searched the tutorial. The tutorial has a very limited instruction. However, when I searched the User Guide it has a dedicated section on all kinds of links. Much better than tutorial.

It’s always worth looking at the User Guide for detailed information on any Xway topic!

The tutorials are more introductory. They contain step-by-step instructions for creating a website, or adding menus, or using flex layout - but there are many topics they don’t cover.
