how to keep a tool selected?

how can I have a drawing tool selected? Ctrl+click show a “Lock” label but after I have used the tool eg. drawing a straight line with the Line tool it isn’t selected any longer but the Selection tool is.

Thanks for your answer.

Yep, I would like to know as well. It’s pretty frustrating to re-select every-time.

Hold control when selecting it, it will have a blue selection rather
than a gray one.

Does that work for Intaglio too?

 Good point, I should be more observant and thought this was a
Freeway question.

I retract my answer, that will only work in Freeway (as far as I know).

If you select the “Lock” item in the tool’s contextual menu or hold down the command key when you select the tool it will be locked and stay selected until you select another tool.

ok, cmd-click a tool locks it as I was hoping for.
But what about the tool’s conetxtual menu? What is that and how can I invoke it?

The contextual menu is a popup menu that appears in the context where you right-click (or hold down the command key and click) the mouse button. If you right-click most tool icons in the palette you’ll get a contextual menu with a “Lock” item.
