As mentioned in the link in this post http://freewaytalk.net/thread/view/64173 , both YouTube and Vimeo are beta testing HTML5 video players. You can sign up at their sites. These currently only work for videos at their sites, embedded videos still use Flash.
I’m pretty happy to see this.

I find it takes a little long to load, then going to menus or scrolling the page has delays on it.
I guess they’re still working on it?

What kind of connection? I’m using a MacBook Pro, 10.6.x, and the latest Safari.

I’m guessing this is down to Leopard. Snow Leopard has significant speed increases over its predecessor in this area.

You may be right. As it’s loading I get the spinning beach ball on and off, then it finally loads.

I just fired up my iMac G5, running Leopard of course. Loading didn’t take long, but the processor is pegged and video playback is jumpy. I only saw the wait cursor once during loading though.

Yeah, it shows up once, then I (impatiently) wiggled the mouse around and it shows up again. Three times total if I keep wiggling the mouse. Then it finally loads.

I’m also on Leopard and it was a wee bit slow for me also.
