html item moves flash item when placed on top

I have two pages that are virtually similar with the same flash item in the same location. on one page i’m able to place an html item on top and everything looks great. but on the other page, i copy and paste the very same html item on top of the flash item and everything gets wonky … either i can’t even see the html item or i can see it but only because it has forced all the other items in the page to shift to different areas.

i’m sure its a basic mistake that i’m making here … thanks for the time and input.

Because Flash uses a Plug-in architecture to display it tends to ‘float to the top’ and you really should avoid putting standard HTML items over Flash content.

Post a link to your page(s) and we can have a closer look but to avoid cross browser issues you shouldn’t overlap them.

Just to add to this there is KB article about this http://www.softpress.com/kb/questions/187/Forcing+Flash+to+appear+behind+other+content

It might work in your situation - give it a go.

thanks david. actually i did use this method to resolve the issue i was having with my drop down menu being blocked by the flash item. and i tried it here as well but no luck. what i’m trying to do is take a semi-transparent box with some text (like a caption) and place it over the flash item.

know of a better way of accomplishing this?

much appreciated.

i should also mention that i originally had the box and text in the flash sequence, but the text was hard to read at times due to poor quality … which is why i thought maybe it would be better to throw an html item on top of the flash.

thank you again.

No - I don’t think that is doable. Not reliably anyway.

Adding a caption to the SWF will probably have to be done in the Flash file itself.
