We have recently started using the Hype Animation action in conjunction with our Freeway pages. We noticed an issue with Spawn New Window not playing nice with the Hype Animation. When loading a page with both items in the page the browser gives an error prompt “Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
This issue has only occurred in IE8 running Windows XP, version detail below. When tested on Vista and Windows 7 the animation works. For a work around we are currently using an iFrame, but this is defeating the purpose of having HTML 5 script as Google can not read through the iframe. Does anyone have a solution to this issue?
-TESTED ON PARALLELS
Parallels: 6.0.11994
OS: Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Browser: IE 8.0.6001.18702
-TESTED ON TOSHIBA COMPUTER
OS: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Browser: IE 8.0.6001.18702
P.S. We are using a “Markup Item” inside Freeway to get the Hype animation on our pages. Uploading the animation resources file through Transmit.
I’ll have a look at this, though I doubt Google will see the Hype animation anyway as everything it generates is written out by JavaScript. Unless Google has suddenly started parsing scripts, it won’t be indexed if it’s in an iFrame or directly embedded on the page.
Could it be that “Compatibility View” is turned on for your browser. When we turn “Compatibility View” on the animation works, but when we turn it off, IE8 give use the error.
The hype animation up is just a test, we will be using Graphics for text for the final animation. Thank you for the spell check.
In regards to the issue. The issue only occurs for us on Window XP IE8 with Compatibility off. When we tested on Windows 7 and Vista the animation works.
The likelihood of a user having XP, IE8 and Compatibility off is fortunately pretty small. And using HTML5 stuff you are always going to have issues with some of your visitors.
If it is that important an issue then you maybe shouldn’t be using it except for better specced users.

Then I don’t know what is going on. We’ve tested it on a virtual and toshiba machine. As well as Hype support has confirmed they have the issue on there end.
I’m using the same version of IE8 as you. Maybe it’s a machine configuration. I’m not a Windows expert, and I’m not aiming to be either. I fire it up occasionally to test things on IE8.
You’ll need someone with more intimate knowledge of that system to diagnose the crash.
