I'd like to propose a change to FreewayTalk…

I’d like to propose a change to the Start a new thread form on the FreewayTalk forum.
http://cssway.thebigerns.com/workbench/du_jour/fwtproposal/

I think these are relatively simple to accomplish, and will save hours of frustration and miscommunication. I welcome all public thought and comment on this proposal and encourage the community to let Softpress know what you think of it in the comments that follow.

Thanks

I would like to second this proposal.

Quite happy with this, a good reminder to include the link.

Could you say a little more about the instructive text? Are you referring to a crib of the Markdown features, or any of the other locally-significant features, like making an email address escape the formatter? As far as your first one goes, I think it’s a great idea, and I can see how it would work from the Web.

I like your idea about a Markdown crib – that would be more useful to
people like me who already apprehend how the form is supposed to work. I
had actually thought of suggesting it, but was unsure of how much space and
effort would be involved.

My original link shows my suggested text, but I would advocate a Markdown
crib as useful as well.

Great Walter

Haven’t tried it yet but do you have to use http:etc. or will www. give a clickable link.

It’s a dumb field, I didn’t put any smarts into it. Whatever you type is added to the bottom of the message like a PS. I can try to make it more smart, I suppose.

I hope they pay you for taking time to implement improvements.

Now it will be harder for people to forget the link when they ask for help.
Thank you Walter!!!

I didn’t put any smarts into it.

Might be worth implementing smarts to turn www.mysite.com into a proper hyperlink - but then again what would that do to one that was a hyperlink already?

Hard place - Rock - Hard place

Even if it’s not a link, I can at least copy/paste “www.somewebsite.com” as
text to get there. Better still than nothing.

… and if finally the “subject” field could be a required-one to avoid “no subject” as list title. People would be probably more focused on the importance of sharing a bit more infos.

Some of us are sometimes that excited to forget about that, open another one with “…ooops forgot the title” and than a third one with the real title.

BTW:

Sharing clickable links is sometimes something that people don’t want but better a copy and paste (or even a cryptic) than nothing.

Ohh yes:

A ban of titles like:

“Can this be done in Freeway …”

or

“How can this be done”

but this is more a “couldn’t resist” one

Cheers
