IE8

Big surprise, it failed the Acid3 test spectacularly. 20/100. Christ,
are their programmers on a work-release program?

Christ, are their programmers on a work-release program?

And we all had such high hopes for it. What’s this all about?

Acid3 is a measure of a browsers web standards compliancy. Safari for
example scored 100, IE8 got 20. I was hoping it would at least hit 50.

I was assuming it might hit rather more than 50 …

I’ve been using IE8 for a few days and I actually kind of like it from an interface perspective. It’s not a huge jump from IE7, but I like private browsing and some of the accelerator plugins are good.

I wonder if there’s any fixes Softpress will integrate into Freeway for IE8. The site’s that I’ve had to write hack sheets for IE6/IE7 for turn out fine without them now.

Softpress’s hacks are all put in with conditional comments, so they should be fine. You can target those to specific versions or use greater than / less than math.

Very interesting. Although I suspect not all entirely accurate.

For example, how could a browser show the server-side PHP code in a
page? (See “Server-side code decompiler” in the review.) The thing
is, this kind of code NEVER makes it to the browser, that’s a
fundamental part of how they work. A request for the page goes out,
the server process the page for instructions, the server sends the
results
. The only time PHP code is sent out is if the page wasn’t
processed at all or the PHP code wasn’t properly constructed. In
which case it is basically broken.

How did they not know this? How did they manage to create that screengrab?
