Importing RTF

I’m trying out freeway to see if I should use it rather than iWeb. I general Freeway is great, but I have one issue:

Whenever I import RTF the formating is completely screwed up. Things that should be underlined are not, while other things are. For example, if one word in a paragraph is underlined, the whole paragraph becomes underlined, if there is a bold, underlined header, the whole text becomes bold underlined. I have tried different documents and different methods (copy directly from MS word, open with textedit and save as RTF, then import etc.), and it never works. When I import into textedit, iWeb, pages etc., the text is fine. Any solutions?

I think that this is more of a workflow issue than anything else.

Is there a particular reason why you are starting with RTFs in the 1st place?

Generally it is easier to carry out all styling within FW itself where you can make all your styles at the start of the project and apply them to plain text that you import.

In the same way that you wouldn’t style text in Quark and then bring it into InDesign for further manipulation.

As to copying text straight from Word - this is a big No No as you end up with Word styling code brought in with it and screwing things up - much as you are experiencing with your RTFs. If you want to bring in text from Word then copy it in to a plain text editor like BBEdit first, to strip out the extraneous stuff, and then paste into your FW doc.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I want to copy from Word is that most of the information I want to put on the web I have as word documents that change often. If I have to redo formating every time I copy and paste, it becomes very cumbersome. That’s why I don’t want to copy plain text. Is there any way to get the formating correctly into Freeway? As said, I tried to put the text into textedit, and save to rtf from there, but it didn’t work, so it’s not word itself.
