Impossible menu design?

Hello all.

I’ve created a design for a website in my mind, the problem is I don’t know how to create it in Freeway ( 5.1 - Pro ). I’ll try to explain what I would like to achieve, and I hope that some of you could help me. I’ve been building fairly basic websites with Freeway so far, so please try to explain it from a perspective of a beginner.

I have made a simple picture that explains what I would like in this address: http://freeweb.siol.net/lgorisek/freeway.png

Ok then, this is how I would like it to work:

( 1.) First, I have just a logo ( PNG picture ) on the website.

( 2.) When a user goes over the logo with his mouse the two menu buttons ( also a PNG picture ) appear. No clicking, just hovering over.

When his mouse is over the LOGO or both MENU buttons, the first row of menus is shown ( MENU 1 and MENU 2 ) and he can than hover over, let’s say MENU 1 to display the submenus of MENU 1. When his mouse is not on the green LOGO field or the green MENU 1 and MENU 2 fields - it is i.e. the blue field, only the LOGO is shown.

( 3.) When he goes over the MENU 1 another row of submenus appear ( also PNG pictures ) and he can choose a submenu, in this case SUBMENU 2. Unlike the LOGO and MENU fields, the SUBMENU fields are all clickable, because they are the ones that actually get you to other pages in the webpage.

So when the user chooses a submenu it takes him to the SUBMENU 2 page, which could be a gallery or something like that.

( 4.) When the user is in this SUBMENU 2 page the only thing shown on the page is let’s say pictures or text relevant to that page and of course the LOGO. The menus disappear. But if he hovers over the LOGO, it shows the whole MENU and SUBMENU menus ( not just the two MENUs like in the beginning ), so he can see exactly where he is. The text ( MENU 1 and SUBMENU 2 ) is coloured just like it was when he hovered over it in the beginning ( rollover action ).

That would be it.

PS. It’s not necessary that the menus are PNG pictures if it would help to make it any easier. It will be text so I guess Freeway’s GIF text can be used instead ( custom font ).

I hope this isn’t too confusing, but if it is and if you have any questions I’ll be glad to answer them.
Also, I really hope this can be done with Freeway and that some of you can help me.

Cheers,

Luka

Anyone? I really hope this is possible, if it’s not, at least let me know, so I can begin creating a new system. Thanks.

PS. Could this be done with Layers ( Show/Hide Layers action ) and/or CSS menus?

They are a bit too specific for the more generic menu generator
Actions (CSS Menus and Menubar) so the Rollover and Target Show Hide
Layer is going to be the best option if you don’t know CSS (although
CSS is probably the nicest method).

The Logo item will need to trigger the menus (with a rollover) which
will in turn trigger the submenus (again with a rollover). Target
items can be triggered so the Target Show/Hide Layer Action needs to
be applied to the menus/submenus.

This is the way that we used to make menus in Freeway 3.5 and earlier,
a tutorial can be found here:

Hope this helps,

Joe
