intermittent drop downs

Just a weird one…

My client says that the css menus disappear when she selects them. For
example, when hovering over the title, the drop down appears. But,
when she moves the mouse down, the drop down does not stay open.
This is happening not only for her, but others on her site. Also, some
people she has contacted don’t even get the drop down menu to appear.

Would there be something causing this problem? I’m at a loss of what
to do to correct a problem that is showing in my FF and Safari.

Further to this, it works ok in FF and Safari, but not in Opera.

I think I’ve just solved the problem. It was only happening when the
menus were above another item - in my case a graphic in the background
(whether it was a layered graphic or not). As soon as I removed ‘Item
Dividers’ in the action pallet, it worked in Opera. IE tests in the
morning before upload.

It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had this problem,
and if not, then why would it have been a problem for me

This happened in older versions of Freeway (before 5.4). What version
are you using?

It works fine for me in Opera. Is that the browser she’s using or is
she on Internet Explorer. When I looked yesterday I noticed you didn’t
have the IE6 compatibility option on which would have prevented the
dropdowns from working in that browser (they wouldn’t have appeared at
all).

She is using IE (although in some IE browsers it has always worked
fine - IE7 and 8, but in other peoples computers using those browsers,
it hasn’t worked - very intermittent).

I have just uploaded the new drop downs - without the item dividers
and it works all round. I also have tried both IE6 on and off and it
works in Opera 10 with that option on or off.

Joe, if I have IE6 turned off, is there the posibility that it won’t
work in some browsers then?

It should work in all modern browsers. IE6 doesn’t support the
necessary CSS for the menus to do their thing so, if IE6 compatibility
is turned on (it is by default) , they are powered by JavaScript on
that browser.

It should do yes, is there any reason for not using the IE6
compatibility option though? If your clients have users on that
browser then there are many other benefits to using IE6 compatibility
including PNG transparency and relative positioning fixes (I notice
you are using an inflow layout).

No other reason other than I’ve been asked to externalise as much as
possible (js and css), so just looking at options to the best way to
do it.

I will turn on the IE fix until I work it all out.
